Subject: Looking at Dead Issue
1. I really thought the lizard cling onto the shirt of Mr Delitsky,
the porn video shop owner, was a very nice touch.
2. Outside the video shop, we hear Common Nighthawks on the soundtrack
for the first time. Another great touch!
3. When Capt. Stonetree is drinking with Insp. Fiore, it's interesting
to note that Stonetree has water while Fiore is having something stronger.
In the background, you can just glimpse a tantalus, which is a small cabinet
for locking up your liquor decanters in. I thought that was interesting in
the light of how everyone is being tempted (tantalized) in this episode. I
also forgot to mention that Stonetree seems to be a vegetarian as well; in
Dark Knight, he orders a "Chinese chicken salad, hold the chicken" from the
takeout place; and in another episode, he's the one with the tofu burger
(Dance by the Light of the Moon?).
4. Nick looks straight up before flying straight up from Fiore's
house. Probably something all vamps learn to do after a few bad
experiences...
5. Mistake: When Insp. Fiore is holding Stonetree at gunpoint in
Fiore's house, the phone rings and Stonetree says "It's probably the
precinct," which it was. He picks the receiver up and then Fiore knocks the
phone to the ground. We hear a dial tone on the soundtrack. But if the phone
was ringing, we wouldn't hear a dial tone from the phone (it didn't ring
enough times for someone at the other end to hang up), we'd just hear
silence or someone's voice from the other end. And wasn't it kind of stupid
for Fiore to do that anyway? If the precinct *had* been phoning, this
strange turn of events would ring alarm bells there.
6. Fiore then pistol whips Stonetree unconscious and loads him into
his van, while his wife Lynn heads off to the beach in Stonetree's car. Once
she ends up at the police station and tells Schanke & Nick where Fiore took
Stonetree, Nick is off to the rescue. After Fiore flees, leaving Nick alone
with Stonetree, Stonetree says "I'll go around front, you take the back."
This seems pretty nonsensical, because they're both inside a building!
7. Stonetree starts to give Fiore the Miranda warning ("You have the
right to remain silent..."). But this is Canada. Although Canadian police do
issue a similar warning upon arrest, the wording is significantly different.
8. At the police picnic, Schanke is shown talking to a chunky boy who
looks to be age 8-10. But we later learn he has a daughter, not a son.
However, we later see this same kid in the background throwing a football
with another man. So I guess he & Schanke are just good friends...
9. In the final scene, Nick kisses Nat. <vbg> And then we see her
start to react (with surprise?) right afterwards. It's almost as if her next
line would be, "Hey, you just kissed me!"

Oh ok, those being the other two cases didn't ring a bell with me because of
them not techincally being dead ultimately. We know LC wasn't, and we saw
Erica on the roof IIRC.

You're thinking of Alyce who was on the roof of the museum in Dark Knight;
Erica was the actor/playwright who watched the sun come up in Last Act, and
she stayed dead.
