Thank heavens (wait, am I allowed to say that now?) a Voice of
Reason. Since when has this list become so PC (Politically Correct for the
uninitiated)? In the last two to three days, it has distinctly lost its
camaraderie and compassion; it has gained a scholarly bent wherein everyone
seems to be trying to impress others with just how erudite and wordy they
can be!

I do remember a very long thread wherein the physical impact and
revulsion felt by vampires for crosses, menorahs (Jewish "candelabras" again
for the unfamiliar), indian holy relics, etc, dominated the list for a week!
A distinctly religious based argument.

LOL!!!! THAT is amusing - I must agree. My two cents:

Vampires cannot be viewed as Monsters. They drink the blood of humans to
survive. If you want monsters, look at people themselves. You have mass
murderers, cannibals, rapists, etc, etc, etc. One could argue that some
Vampires are doing mankind a servise by eliminating such elements (re
Lestat, in Anne Rice's Novels). I personally feel that the vampire is both
a predator and a savior, but never a monster. The Vampire only becomes a
monster when it kills without thought or feeling. Even LaCroix can be
shown to have some feeling, as he seeks revenge on Nick for Fleur. No,
rather the true horror lies within- In ourselves.

I thought it was that first kill thing Screed mentioned in

humans.

Guess its similiar to the way that some people like Pepsi (me!)

Not to sound kinky or anything but I personallly think that human
blood tastes better than that of cows. And if it can be said that
vampires have _all_ of their senses hightened than taste must be hightened.
So if human blood tastes better thatn cow blood, why the heck _not_ drink
human blood? I can't have animal protein very often becuase it makes me

I agree with Lisa. When he tries to live "like" a mortal for
Natalie's sake, he is denying himself the vampire qualities without
getting the human qualities, so of course he's miserable and backslides.

But if he could actually make the trade, I think he would. He
believes his soul can be saved: he's still a child of the 13th century
Catholic Church, after all these years, and just this past year, he
believes he conversed with an angel who told him he cannot be redeemed if
he dies as he is now. Plus, there are pleasures he remembers and can't
have, like sunlight, food, mortal sex, a mortal family. As for the
vampire life: after 800 years, he believes he's hit its limits (granted,
LaCroix thinks Nick's wrong about this, and there's an argument that LC is
right). He doesn't want its benefits anymore and he thinks its downsides
are so evil that it's worth anything to get out of it.

We may not think so, but I bet deep (or maybe not so deep) in Nick's medieval
psyche he believes there is. The old vampire folk tales hold vampires to be
damned. Some even held that they were vampires because they were damned, not
the other way around. And he has 800 years of personal experince to back it
up. It's kind of hard to convince yourself you are not innately evil, when
your very nature drives you to murder over and over again. No, vampires
don't seem to be killing as much as they did back in the good old days. But
that's because it has become too dangerous for them to do so, not because
they decided it "just wasn't right".

That could be because we do have a small "vampire" cult here (even before
FK) - they don't kill anyone (to my knowledge). In fact the "Raven"
(original) version was modelled after a nightclub here called "Sanctuary"
where (people who think they're) "vampires" hang-out. I thought I'd
mention this because an FK fan said he didn't think it was common
knowledge in FK fandom. If you plan to visit - don't forget the neck
brace - they advertise themselves as "Sanctuary - The Vampire Sex Bar".

I can't say that I am a Tracy fanatic, either, but I am trying to give her a
break. I was actually rooting for her to be the one to solve the anagram.
Perhaps if the writers LET her solve one of the crimes, it might give her
some credibility. As far as her being young, naive, and perky, well, she
is. She's 25, new to the Homicide Department, and the commissioner's
daughter (at least she's not dressing up in purple spandex and driving
around the city on her Batcycle - yikes, now there's a pretty picture for you).

It wouldn't hurt Nick to help her out a bit, take her under his wing and
show her the ropes, gee, and maybe even pay attention to her once in awhile
(she was on the mark in Blackwing and everyone just blew her off). Even
Schanke was a greenhorn at one point in his career (and he probably didn't
have his father calling him every five minutes trying to run his life). I
definately think Tracy has potential, there is room for her character to
grow, she just needs more time... if only we get a Fourth Season to prove me
right.

Why are we attracted to so-called antiheroes? Perhaps because they
express a side of our nature that we either cannot or will not, yet wish
we could. After all, what is an ordinary hero except for someone who
"does what must be done"? (I don't know who first said that). But
someone on the dark side... Also, imho, the characters with whom we most
strongly identify reveal a lot about ourselves. Knight tries to supress
his darker nature (with limited success), LaCroix accepts who and what he
is, Nat tries to understand the darkness (in hopes of a cure)... You
get the general idea. But it's the interaction with darkness that gives
us (or me at least) such a thrill, the idea of being free to express our
darker selves. Well, that's my take. Others?

Something like "Memnoch the Devil", I imagine.....or would that be more NICK

AG list, would be a perfect foil for an encounter with LaCroix. LaCroix is a
being who proports to not believe in the existence of either God or the

I have seen it posted here that in FK the vampires drink their partners
blood during the deed and so they would kill any mortal partner during the
act. Do they *have* to drink blood during sex (at least in the FK
universe)? Is it a basic natural instinct for them? What purpose does it
serve?

Does anyone know of other animals that "feed" during sex? I know that a
male cat bites a female cat on the neck, but just to prevent her from
running away before he's finished. The male dog's penis actually expands
sideways once inserted (think kotex) in order to maintain contact for many
minutes (might be as much as 10 or 15). And I know that the Praying Mantis
female bites the head off the male, but it's that just to keep him from
rolling over and going to sleep when he's done?

Flashback... I mean, feedback please.

I agree with you. It has to be something more than an addiction.

Well, there has been some speculation (at least on my account) about the
memory factor -that since humans have the capability to store learned
knowledge plus instinct, when the vampire takes the life (or life force,
which ever makes you happy) of a mortal, they can get a glimpse of the
mortal's mind. Everything they ever felt, were moved by, the experience
of life, of actually LIVING.

I mean, can you imagine existing in the dark cover of the moon for almost
a decade of centuries then feeding on a human that has seen the sun every
single day of their life? It has to be some kind of exhilerating rush
that only a human being can pass on to a Vampire.

Oh, and Risha? You really need to get out of the Science Center more

Subject: New Comerical?/EM Artc/SQ Con report

Hi Guys,

1) Has anyone else's local station shown a new comerical for FK? It starts
out with Ger in a dark blue or black suit with a red background. He starts
out saying something like "This is my city, the night is my beat." and ends
with,"A Forever Knight its going to be a long one."
My question is this a new comerical or did my local station just
finally decide to start using it.It does have flashes of Schanke and
Janette but it does have Tracy and Reese in it too.

2) Could some kind soul e-mail me off list about how to get a hold of a
copy of the article and ad in EM?I've looked for it in my area but haven't
seen it.

3)Anyone interested.....I just got back from the seaQuest convention in
Orlando.Did drop off a few flyers in airports and left a stack at the
convention.Did find a fan who hadn't heard anything about the status of the
show and was very interested in what we were doing.I also filled her in on
the lists so she may be popping up here soon.:-)

I've been thinking along the lines of maybe human blood has some sort of
"essense" to it that animal blood doesn't have. I mean, the fanfic makes
extensive reference to being able to taste fear, etc. in the blood, but I
haven't been watching long enough to know if this is cannon or not). Maybe
it's the emotion that makes human blood different.

Um ... if you haven't checked out AG yet, you've missed your chance. It is
gone and will not return, even to air the episodes already in the can,
according to CBS yesterday. Sorry.

(But the thought of LaCroix and Buck ... <giggle> ... I can't wait to see

To respond to Bonnela--
I fail to see the connection between sacrifices and honor ;-} In times
of warfare, the victory is all, and sacrifices may help to acquire that
victory. An interesting historical note: the crusades were begun in
part to save Byzantium from the heathen raiders, but the fourth crusade
was persuaded by Venetian merchants to _attack_ Byzantium, who was a
trading rival. I'd say that episode basically sums up the whole of
existence: self-interest is the sole motivator. Forgive a humble Cousin

Hey, I was watching last night too as I rearranged my furniture (the
psycho-roomie From Hell moved out *bounce* so now I have room for that
Laz E Boy I've been lookin for). Now I normally don't watch Ft13th
basically because of it's premise, but once I saw who was in the ep I
decided to give it a shot.

A *FEW* lines? Allison, were you watching the same episode I was? I
swear I was having MAJOR flash-back-age when I saw Unc --er Nigel behind
the microphone in a radio-station-booth. Can you say CERK precursors?

Precisely. It was a very odd episode, but I was surprised they didn't do
more coherent flashing back.

Oh, and YBWTMFKW: you happen to tune into "Friends" and during the opening

Hello! I'm back! Here's a repost of my response to a very similar question a
short while back:

>Lisa said "--at least mortal women are liable to be bitten and killed by
>the vampire partner..." Why women? Do male vampires have less control
>over themselves?

We went around and around about this, about a year ago, so I'll try to
summarize it for you. If I get it wrong, I'm sure people will correct me.

In "Dance By The Light Of The Moon" (1st season) there is a scene that, um,
*heavily implies* that Nick & Janette were intimate before he was brought
over, without Nick realizing she was a vampire. This implies that female
vamps can perform the act without neck-biting. Especially since, in "Baby,
Baby" (2nd season), Janette specifically tells Nick that when she takes a
mortal lover, the results are usually fatal to the mortal.

On the other hand, it's pretty well established that male vamps invariably
bite their their lovers, often (if the lover is mortal) to the point of
death/conversion. I believe Mr. P. even said so, at a con or online chat or
some such, but that's second-hand info.

While many theories have been advanced (and will be again, I'm sure ;> ), my
personal one is quite simple. Men (and male vampires) have, when all is said
and done, to enjoy the experience to complete it. (That was ambiguous enough,
wasn't it? <g>) Women (and female vampires) don't. So, Janette (and female
vampires) could 'satisfy' a male mortal lover without (necessarily) slipping
over the edge into 'autonomic physical response' and, presumable, losing
control and chomping on the guy. But Nick (and LaCroix, and Javier) can't
'satisfy' a female mortal lover without going over the edge to 'reflex',
losing control, and thus chomping on her, which has the *potential* for fatal
draining.

Hmmm.... I tried to keep this PG-13. Hope I succeeded.... <g>

I'd love to discuss fanfic here, but we have to be careful about

to read it, then discuss? We could do one long one, or several
short ones each week.

Umm.. Susan... hate to rain on your parade, but the original Raven set *was* a
TO nightclub. Called Stilife, now (I'm told) defunct. I've been there, and
I'm told the crew would simply ask some of the usual customers to stick around
and play extra after closing, when they were filming. Until today, my Web
page had a picture of me hanging in Stilife's chains on it.

It now (shameless plug) has pictures of the NATPE 7 on it! :) And a photo that
looks a lot more like I do now.

Subject: Attention CTV viewers / Titanic

Hi everyone!

CTV decided to move Forever Knight back to its old monday 10pm slot. At
least, according to my TV Hebdo. I recommend that, from now on, anyone who
watches FK on this channel always checks every monday and wednesday! We
just can't be sure anymore!

A note about the discussion concerning the Titanic:
It is impossible that Nick could have stayed underwater for a long time.
Why? Because in Sons of Belial, Nick strangles a female vampire while
possessed by the "evil". She suffocates, and Nick has to let her go,
otherwise she would probably have died. But, I'm not sure he was trying to
struggle her, because the image was blurry! (This is what I get for
watching FK at my friend's house!) It was an excellent episode, in my
opinion. Just my two cents.

Bye now!
