I'm taking forever. But I've been sick for the past few weeks, which leads to absolute zero interest in writing because I'm hibernating when I'm not taking care of the kids... Or conversely, if war never appealed to you, why not? I never played because I was intimidated and never felt like I never reached an interactive (read: "friend-like") level with other list members. And there was a lot more war traffic to contend it so it all seemed very confusing. That's why I was determined to play this time around to get past those ideas. I'm very happy I did. :) Allison Unnamed Cousin smilewithviolets@y....... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2014 19:41:01 -0600 From: E McCann <egmccann@g.......> Subject: Re: Old warriors never die, they just fade away ... eh. I think it's time and energy for me, at least this time around. That and being away for so long. Or conversely, if war never appealed to you, why not? I've been a member of the list since 1994 or so, and in all that time I played in two wars. Why not more frequently? Time, mostly, and a basic dislike of the chaos that a full-blown war is. I write at a more deliberate pace than is required in a war. Another factor is that I write and edit for a living, and to do that in a full-time job and then come home and write some more is more than I enjoy doing. It's weird, then, that I ended up running War 12, but that was more by accident than intent. That was when the UF chat on the Undernet every Friday was pretty active, and we were discussing possible war premises. In the end I offered to put all the ideas into one coherent email, and that ended up getting sent to McLisa. Before I knew it the premise was accepted, and as the submitter, I was It. Smith" <libratsie@s.......> Subject: Re: Old warriors never die, they just fade away I haven't been very active in the last two wars due to time. This go around, I happened to be pulled into a play to replace someone with just a few weeks before opening night. Plus, my job is a lot busier now. Years ago, the war happened to fall during a slow time so I was able to write SOME between assignments. In fact, after I explained to co-workers what was going on, they gave me some great ideas. LOL. Perhaps I'll be able to do more next time. --Libby ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Mar 2014 23:13:53 -0500 From: Brenda Bell <webwarren@e.......> Subject: Re: Old warriors never die, they just fade away At 04:42 PM 3/6/2014, Greer wrote: >...I get the impression that there are still quite a number of >people on list who *used* to [War]. It took me several Wars before I got interested in playing, and it was mostly because i had a group of listfriends with similar interests that was interested in playing as a combined faction (The Celtic Glow Worms and the Tequila Fiends). We had some pretty crazy premises behind our existence as a group, and some pretty fun times. Part of the problem was that I was the main writer for the combined group of what started out as five or six *active* participants in War 9, one of whom was primarily a member of the Nunkies Anonymous faction, whittled down to four of us in War 10, three of whom GAFIATed from the fandom over the time between Wars 10 and 11. The War 11 premise allowed only the original eight or nine factions. I signed on with the Die-Hards, but didn't have a lot of time to write for myself. Meanwhile, the Vampbear's story arc took off, and the Warmistress had some concerns about Nicolas de Bearbant being off on his own while I was not doing a whole lot in there. By the time War 12 rolled around, the Tequila Fiends and Celtic Glow Worms had pretty much all drifted apart, and writing a whole War was more time and effort than it was worth. Also, when there isn't a big faction, it takes a lot of time to wade through the posts, plot with other factions, write posts, and still have the story threads relevant to the rest of the War. I was pretty much GAFIATed over Wars 13 and 14, haven't had the time to put into a War effort since, and to tell the truth, I've largely moved on and grown away from FK fandom. (Most of my writing efforts today are in the realm of diabetes advocacy, mobile health, and mobile technology, except when I'm trying to improve some of the processes at my retail day job; most of my "fannish" stuff has been in the renfaire community; most of my time has been tied up in trying to make ends meet and failing miserably at the task.) In short, Real Life got in the way, and, to a great degree, FIJAGDH. Brenda F. Bell webwarren@e....... The last two wars, for me, has been real life intruding. In war 14, I got the flu really bad and was in the hospital after starting to play. In this last war, I had just gone back to school and had more work to do, and then my father was in critical condition and passed away, and I had to fly out of town for 2 weeks. That said, I love the chaos and fun of wars. I will always *try* to participate and pray real life behaves!
