I watched Moonlight and thought it was ok. I will continue to watch for a while to give it a chance. I am not liking the whole "Film Noir" narration thing, though. As much as I love FK, if it had done that way I think it would have really annoyed me over time. I keep imaging if they did FK's opening credits that way... Instead of LaCroix we have Nick saying in a bored voice over "I was brought across in 1228 and I preyed on humans for their blood. But now, I want to be human again....." It might be interesting if somebody did a fan fic in that format. Maybe that should be a challenge some time? Or has that been done already? On another story angle I thought I "recognized" a fanfic somebody wrote a long time ago. Mick has known Beth since she was a child, even saved her then and watched over her. IIRC I read a fic once where Nick saves/ meets a six-year-old Nat. I don't remeber much more of the story and I can't check since all of my fanfic collection died with my old PC. Maybe someone remebers the story? There should have a disclaimer giving Forever Knight credit. It's even got flashbacks. Plus it's on CBS! If CBS had back FK a bit more, it might have lasted longer. It struck me that this is the series that "Nick Knight" (the original pilot with Rick Springfield) might have become, especially with today's technology for special effects - not to mention the fact that this time the show has network backing (unless Letterman is going to move to PrimeTime Fridays). And, while Mick St. John is o.k., GWD is cuter. And an aside: isn't it peculiar that these vampire sagas seem to have some vampires with oddly ironic names: Nick's sire is "LaCroix" - French for "The Cross". The Cross! You name a vampire after the Cross? And here, Mick's last name is St. John. Saint? For a vampire? Even thought there was a throw-away line about crosses not bothering him. Over all, I enjoyed it, thought it was fairly well done: and give 'em a break, this was just the first show. And also, a private detective would have been a good profession for Nick to move on to. ;-> ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 1 Oct 2007 06:17:16 GMT From: KC Smith <tigrlady2u@j.......> Subject: Re: Moonlight/ FK ripoff.... Nat has a bear that has a pin with a 'N' and Nick asks her about it... turns out she was lost while camping and Nick saved her... GEEZ! I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. I'd love to read it again. Anyone? KC Smith tigrlady2u@j....... Nick/Natpacker with dark tendencies. I wouldn't call it a ripoff (although the first sun-rising-over-the-city scene looked so familiar I thought it was a homage). There are some similarities (the title character regrets becoming a vampire, is a detective, drives an older car, has an acquaintance in the city morgue) but they are pretty general and I can point to other detective/police dramas that have those same similarities. It isn't the same as having FK back in production...but it was entertaining. I read on a tv.com forum today that Moonlight was not a "rip-off" of Forever Knight but of a TV movie made in 1989. Sound familiar? The person who posted that had no idea Nick Knight had been made into a TV series. I remember someone posted a few weeks back that they asked the creator of Moonlight about the FK connection and he denied knowing of the show. Do we know if he knew about Nick Knight?
