I agree.  If Schanke had known vampires existed  outside his imagination he
would  have realized  what Nick was.

I agree again.  It also had the added benefit of suggesting speed.

  I guess, they just didn't think it was that severe. As Stonetree said, "We're
not talking about a day at the beach".
  I always wondered if Nick gave in so easily because the events in the
flashback bothered him or because he wanted to escape the sun rays that crept nearer.
