Yes! Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. And it explains how Nat got the
equipment she'd need to do the transfusion, which was another thing I
couldn't figure out.

Yes, and there is some nice fan fiction about this, including a piece where
Nick visits a retired Stonetree and is given a talisman.... But my brain is
incapable of summoning the name and I don't seem to have it on this
computer....

Something nobody else has mentioned yet about why Nick got a pint of Grade A
Schanke in his blood is that earlier on in the storyline we see Schanke
donating blood, and anxiously inquiring which blood group he belongs to
(which suggests this is his first time donating). And normal practice is
that you can only donate a certain amount of blood within a given time
frame - so Schanke *can't* make a donation specifically for Nick.
Yes, it is possible that Nick ends up with Schanke's earlier donated blood -
but I was always under the impression that they keep details of donors
secret, so how did Nat and Don know it was his blood? I know they can trace
blood back to a specific donor - they have to, in case later tests show the
donor has some nasty disease, a point raised in this very episode - but I
still doubt that Schanke would have known that it was his blood used.
As to the question of what happened to the ambulance Alyce called - well,
she called it for an injured Jeannie, and at the end of the story you still
have an injured Jeannie needing medical attention. Ergo, the paramedics
arrive as Jeannie stumbles out of the warehouse, they attend to her, and
then drive off with patient on board. You know what they say: "Keep it
simple, stupid!"

I wondered if maybe we could have been looking at backwards. I don't
particularly care for Alyce but she could have caught in Nick's vampire
Thrall. It might explain her insane behavior in following him which always
bothered me. A.) he's a cop and she could have got in the way of police
investigation. And B.) Assuming she suspected him of being a vampire
(because of the picture and the concerns by the natives,) it still wasn't a
very sensible thing to do. She could have found herself in a real mess -
which she did. Nick might be safe to be around but that doesn't
necessarily mean other vampires would be.

Yeah, I agree with that. There's also something about the way he sounded
when he told the story about the scorpions. He made it sound scary,
spooky. Maybe what he was really trying to say, without saying it, was,
"Leave it alone. (Just like it would be better to leave the scorpion
alone.) Stop thinking and talking about vampires. It's dangerous."
And I figure, given the Enforcers, it really is dangerous.

I have commented once or twice. I have said hold me to my men friends
and my husband, nothing wrong there, it's warm, friendly and romantic.
It was also giving him allowance to touch, he always held back.
Stonetree was a wonderful character; I liked Cohen, but I did miss
Stonetree when he left. I find using the word tea was code word for
them in case someone was around, they wouldn't discover his secret.

I think that is exactly the point we were trying to make: you said it to
friends and your husband, not a near stranger whom you've just met and
who seems to be knowing such a lot about the jade cup and some obscure
excavation. Besides, Nick seemingly appears out of nowhere. Even though
he gives an explanation to the guard, Alyce should be a bit more
suspicious. So Nick actually whammying her a bit at that moment might
explain a lot of that behavior. Still, I liked the more confident Alyce
of the movie version better. And as for the dress - a lot of the female
staff at my university dressed like that in the early nineties, and some
of them were quite independent minded women professors, so that's not
necessarily a criterion for me.
Does anyone have the original shooting script of Dark Knight (not a
fan-made transcript)? IIRC, there is always a short description of the
character the first time they appear. Might be interesting what it says
about Alyce.
