Then Nick being the 'brick' that he is, discusses it with her like nothing is weird about it. -Amanda "What princes of the moon we'd be, Two blazing beacons in the dark Desire drives me to take him now, No force on earth will ever tear him from my heart." http://www.darksideoftheglass.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Jul 2006 10:29:51 -0700 From: Megan Hull <mistrydder@y.......> Subject: Re: Episode Discussion: Dark Knight 1 & 2 That's an interesting take on it, not one I'd thought of before. It's entirely possible, and with better visual effects/background music, that may have been the conclusion more people would have drawn. But it's hard to bring out such 'unseen' information without proper effects... and, well, we all know what kind of a budget FK got.... -Megan P J <blue_twingo772@y.......> wrote: In conclusion, this is in fact one of my favorite scenes because in my opinion it shows a darker Nick, which I like very much. (I've looked through posts to try to make sure no one else has pointed this out yet... If I missed one, apologies...) Unfortunately, the version of Dark Knight on the DVD cuts a relatively long scene that gives us a much better idea of their relationship, which at this point is pretty close and affectionate (brother/sisterish). It's at the end of the last cut to the scene where she confronts him at the loft. The official DVD cuts away after Nick says "Lock up when you leave." .. Nick stands to put the cup away. Nat: What about the street people? Nick turns and kneels or hunkers down behind her, leaning against her with his head against hers and his left arm casually around her. Not a big hug, but very intimate. Nat's reaction--or rather lack of reaction--shows this is a perfectly ordinary thing for him to do. Nat: I mean he killed the guard at the museum to get the cup, the Indians to halt the dig--but that still doesn't explain why he would be killing these homeless people. Nick: (still leaning his cheek against her head, looking off and remembering) They were always our prey. I mean, nobody cares about them, nobody notices when they're gone. Never bothered LaCroix. Only me. (He turns his head into her hair as if he were whispering into her ear). This is his way of getting back at me. This is his way of calling me out, Nat." There's a beat of silence and then he kisses her on the temple, stands up, touching her shoulder as he goes off to bed. The whole scene is a good demonstration of the way Ger and Catherine advanced the idea of the characters being in love with each other just by the way they played it. And there's a nice echo in the more light-hearted hug-from-behind he gives her at the end of DK II in the museum. The expression on Nat's face when he kisses her (she closes her eyes briefly) is an instant tip-off to the viewer that "there's more here than just friendship." And, of course this scene also gives a lot more weight to Nick's conviction that LaCroix is murdering the homeless people, making its absence even more lamentable. I also regret the missing scene where Nick invites Topper and Jeannie (sp?) to come sleep in his garage and gives then a bag of burgers for their dinner. Sigh. If I thought Sony would pay attention, I'd say we should try to get them to put a "Compleat Dark Knight I & II) (archaic spelling intended) in the Third Season set. I think LaCroix keeps tabs, through a network of paid, threatened or whammied sources <gr> on anything and everything of interest to him, and nothing is of greater interest than an object that might come to Nick's attention as a possible cure. I suspect he knew when the dig was reopened, and when the cup was found.
