I saw that the last time I went there. I thought of Nick too.

I admit that I admire his taste in food. <G> After
all, soulvaki is just gyros without the yummy fried
pita bread.

Subject: CD's interview for Snakes & Ladders (pt 1)

Here is an excerpt from the CBC Radio One interview on Snakes & Ladders. The
interviewer is Michael Enright, who has a long history of interviewing
politicians on CBC's flagship show, "As It Happens"; Catherine Disher and Snakes
& Ladders writer/producer/editor Wayne Grigsby (sp?) are being interviewed.

M.E.: What was it in the character [of MP Audrey Flankman] that made you say,
"Oh, I wanna do it, I wanna do it?" If indeed that's what you said.

CD: Wayne has written a rarity. As a middle aged actress, to find a character in
her 40's that is powerful and passionate and childish and inspirational &
volatile and funny-- You never get to do that stuff! And she has power. I'm
basically playing the male lead, I think. I'm Wayne in drag... So it was an
unparalleled opportunity.

Gotta dash--more later: CD goes to Ottawa!

Angela Gottfred

Subject: CD's interview for Snakes & Ladders (pt 2)

Another excerpt:

Michael Enright (ME): Did you have any interest that goes beyond passing in
Ottawa, in politics and all that?

Catherine Disher (CD): Yeah, my mother's family... My great-grandfather was a
senator... It wasn't so much that. I'm a real news junkie, I credit Wayne
Grigsby with turning me into a political junkie. But I do have to read a couple
newspapers a day, and look at the news on TV.

ME: You went to the Liberal [party's] leadership convention

CD: Yes, we did!

ME: back in November.

CD: It was so much fun!

ME: Were you shooting there?

CD: We shot there. They dressed me up in my bright red suit with my bifocals,
the security guys played along and gave me a parliamentary pass that _clearly _
said that I was an MP and member of the Privy Council [Cabinet], and I had the
actors that were playing my henchmen behind me and a camera and I was wired for
sound. My directive was to go up and shake hands with as many notable
politicians as I could find. And that's when I noticed what a political junkie
I was! 'Cause I could go, "Whoa, look, there's McCallum! Jack Leighton, Jack
Leighton, we're going after Jack Leighton!"

ME: And they all shook hands?

CD: You know what? If you stick your hand out, they will shake it...

ME: It's instinct.

CD: ...especially if there's a camera.

ME: They have a muscle in their arm, it's like a twitch, yeah.

CD: It's a reflex! No, it's true. And also, they don't want to be seen _not_
shaking your hand on camera. So then, after I shook their hand for a couple
minutes and ad-libbed a bit, I took them aside and said, "You know, we're doing
a new show for the CBC, and--" And half of them would run, after I said that.

More to come later.

Your very humble & most obedient servant,
Angela Gottfred
