This is a response to the last several e-mails so i didn't quote anybody. To
clarify, i didn't say that i knew they wouldn't be released, i said that i
was being realistic--not the same thing :) Next, I agree that everyone is
entailed to their own opinion, but where do you draw the line when that opinion
hurts others? It's like someone using freedom of speech to promote violence or
prejudice. I say, if you aren't happy then don't buy anymore seasons of FK.
We do not know if complaining would fix the problem or if it would make them
not release the other seasons. I have a degree in marketing and I'm not saying
that they didn't make any mistakes, but i am asking, is it worth the risk of
not getting the other seasons??

No it's not you Sierra...there seem to be a lot of complainers.

I used to be involved with KtK. I did the ads for Hollywood Reporter/Variety.

I'm truly irritated and depressed that many who were pushing madly to get
DVD's are now complaining.

Get over yourselves! You've sent money to auctions and cried and lamented to
have this DVD. If it isn't perfect...forget about it. Do you really want the
other seasons or do you want to have something to continue to complain about?
I'm really sorry the dvd's aren't up to top quality level...but honestly...we
have the first season in a fairly undegradable format. How long do you think
your tapes will last?

I don't regret any time I spent trying along with many others to get what we
have...the first season...and you know who you are...Becky, Susan, April,
Libby, etc.

Please support the efforts you first supported or else there will be no more
DVD's...period.

Subject: DVD's

As most of you know I post very infrequently and I had pretty much promised
myself to stay out of the dvd controversy. however I have something to say and if
it makes me unpopular or steps on any toes I am sorry.

Diversity is a great thing, and one of the wonderful things about this group is
we come from varried backgrounds, (both professional and personal). When I
first joined this list it was among a flurry of outrage over something that had
been said that was very hurtful to one of our members.

As time has gone on I have seen us rally around one another in good times and
bad.

In my opinion <and this is my opinion and mine alone for which I claim all
responsibility, and is in no way meant to diminish anyone else's feelings>.

We are all here for one reason, our mutual love for Forever Knight. We were
here before the DVD's we'll will most likely be here long after them. Like all
family's we will agree and disagree , bicker and fight. But can we keep in mind
that also family's forgive and agree to disagree without having to say one or the
other is wrong?

Let's not make the one thing that brought us all together be the very thing to
tear us apart.

That being said I am going to step even further out on a limb and see if i fall
off LOL.

I wonder if it would be possible between all our <great> minds to come up with
a open minded pro's and cons list , if in fact sony monitors this list it may
be something even they might want to know, who better to help them see the good
and what could be better then the very ones who begged to have the product in
the first place?

<those of you who hate analogy's close your eyes now LOL>

It takes many different tone pitches to make up a great orchestra but once you
put them all together the music can sweep you away. The same can be said of
opinions put together it might be possible to come up with a letter that might
show sony just how much this one show meant to a group of people.

Time for me to shut up now

I, for one, am not complaining. I bought the set at the pre-sale price of
$24.99 (something like that). They were the Canadian verision and had a
better picture than my duped set. I have since recycled those 13 tapes along
with my CBS & SFC set of tapes and replaced them with 5 slick DVDs. Whether
they ever release the other 2 seasons or not, at least I have Season One,
it's more than I had this time last year. I am quite happy!

Just for the record: I love the DVD's, they are much better than my
tapes in every way-visually, aurally, in the editing (original Canadian
version), the whole nine yards. I think that Sony is going to do the
thing which fans of vampire books see almost every year: hold onto the
second installment so that they can release it in October, the official
month of horror and vampires. It's happened with all my favorite book
series, and we always see lots of other horror DVDs in October, I see no
reason for FK to miss out on this natural marketing period. So don't
panic until Nov. 1, 2004.

My only wish for Season 2 DVDs would be chapter divisions (four per
episode, at the commercial breaks) to make it easier to pick up the DVD
if the viewing has been interrupted in the middle of an episode. But,
frankly, I would be thrilled to see Season 2 exactly the same as Season
1; anything more would be icing on the cake. (Oh, and of course it would
be great if they released Dark Knight in the full Canadian version, not
the abbreviated one that appeared in the first season set. I'd be happy
to buy that as a stand-alone movie.)

Angela Gottfred

Quoting two different posts here.

>>> If Sony truly is listening, then they _want_ to know what we think
anyway. In any case, telling Sony what they did *right* with the product, as
you infer, will not show them where they can improve. <<<

Why does anyone think Sony is listening, truly or otherwise? They have NEVER
listened to FK fans previously, and they certainly aren't listening now. They
don't give a rat's a$$ what we have to say, positive or negative. The risk
in continuing to complain and post negative reviews about the DVDs is not that
Sony might see them and retaliate by not releasing more. The risk is that
people will read the complaints and negative reviews and choose not to buy the
DVDs based on said complaints and reviews, reducing sales of the DVDs, cutting
into Sony's bottom line, and making it not worth their while to release more.

>>> Sony crammed them onto only 5 DVDs for goodness sake and did nothing to
clean the picture. FK should have been on at least 6 discs to look good and
not suffer from over-compression. <<<

The FK DVDs are what used to be referred to in the PC game world as "shovelware".
Back when PC games on CD were a brand new concept, game makers would
repackage the exact same game that had come on ten disks onto one CD, without
making ANY enhancements to the game, and of course people bought them anyway.
Doing the same thing with movies and TV shows being released on DVD is NOT
unusual. Most DVDs that have been enhanced from the original version will state
such on the packaging. The FK DVDs never made any such claim, so it should not
have been expected. They are what they say they are, the first season of FK
put onto DVDs. As far as being five discs rather than six, there's that bottom
line thing again. Since it's possible to do it, and it's cheaper to produce,
OF COURSE they did it. Sony isn't releasing these DVDs out of the goodness
of their hearts to make the fans happy, they're doing it to make as large a
profit as possible. Cheaper production values are an effective means to that
end.

>>> "Constructive criticism" can be very helpful and if Sony is actually
listening perhaps they will do better with the other seasons or perhaps they
don't care either way. <<

Ah, the editor's lament! This is actually a very handy thing for
fanfic writers to keep on hand for referral. If I had a penny for
every mistake like these that I've seen in fanfic, well, I wouldn't be
investing in Powerball tickets. <g>

And I was glad to see the reference to Bob the Angry Flower. He's
graced my cubicle wall for many years, as a gentle reminder to my
software developer coworkers' writing efforts.

Thanks for posting it. I had a bit of a hard time
locating it, but I did find it eventually, and I
really enjoyed it. It was refreshing to read someone
else's take on things after spending so much time
IM'ing with one other writer in particular....was
kinda refreshing to see something different this time.

link you to my author page if you want to read my
