-Vancouver, Canada 2000, contd: Paying more attention to
the show now. Saddened that the fans seem to have
disappeared from the surface of the planet, as most
webpages don’t seem to get updated. Sigh, they must have
given up on it after the show got cancelled. I feel like
a party guest who’s arrived when the party is already
over and is looking at the aftermath. But wait a minute?
What is this place? There are people, on SciFi channel’s
Billboard, still talking about the show? Amazing, lets
join them. And lets try to catch up with the whole show
on Showcase.

-Montreal, Canada 2001: I hate the turns of fate. Now I’m
in this city and don’t have VTV or Showcase to see the
show. True I’m taping it back in Vancouver, but I want to
see it NOW. And want to see “Last Knight” before all of
it is spoiled for me. Damn. Lets whine about it on
SciFi’s bboard. But wait. There is a new member from
Montreal here. Surprise: it’s a guy. More surprise: he
works at the _same company_ as I do. Joyful surprise; he
has all the tapes from the show. We are friends now,
having lunch together every day and talking about FK. He
lends me the tape for “Last Knight”: his fav episode. I
watch it alone in my room, on a cold dark night. I know
what will happen, it won’t shake me up, it won’t…sniff,
it’s ok..sniff, no way that can’t be true,…bwahaa,whahaa,
hick up, hick up. I need Kleenex now.

Montreal/Vancouver 2001: Forkni-l is still around???? I
didn’t know that. Lets become a member there too. Oh my
god, I know some of these people, these are some of my
favourite authors. Looks like I found the party at last.
My first FK story is done now. Took me five months and
long hours of staying after work. Now I can post it. Ok,
posted the first part, that’s fine. Already getting
feedback and…Ohmy, what’s that? A WAR? Too bad I chose
this time to post my story. Well let’s join the war and
play. After all, I’ve done the miniwar already, on the
bboard, this shouldn’t be too hard. This is gonna
be…whaaa, blubber, blubber, HELLLP, someone save me from
this flood of emails …

San Diego, 2001: And finally: my first FK gathering. Oh
how I love FK fans, such nice people they are. And at
last, a group of people who understand my language. I
think I found a group of new friends. This is so coool.

Well, that’s sorta it. It’s been under two years since I
found out about the fandom and it’s been one of the most
amazing experiences of my life. I have to thank you guys
just for being there. And if you are reading this,
congratulations, you’ve made it through the whole story.
Thanks.

Yours truly,
Sunny

I have to agree with Brian. I used to watch Buffy a lot.
It was my favorite show in its second season and I loved
the Angel/Buffy story and the few flashbacks they showed
of Angel's past (of course, at that time, I still hadn't
discovered FK, otherwise I would have noticed where
they'd really come from.) But it started to degenerate by
the third season. When Buffy and Angel split, and they
hooked her up with that weirdo guy with the commando
nonsense, the show died for me right there. I stopped
watching Buffy after the fourth season. I stopped
watching Angel after the episode with the guy buried
alive in the wall of Cordelia's house. I couldn't imagine
how she could live there knowing that. Anyway, guess what
I'm saying is that both shows somehow drifted from the
vampire topic and went into a realm of supernatural
Hollywood freak show. After a while it was just too tacky
for me to watch.

Thank god they didn't do that with FK. But maybe they
would have had the show continued. Who knows, perhaps the
cancellation was a blessing after all.

An Asteroid sequel, anyone?

Also, I saw this headline at the Minneapolis Star Tribune site this morning:

Obviously, I've been either watching too much FK or reading way too much FK

Subject: Re: Funny scenes

In addition to the funny moments already mentioned, a couple others come to
mind that I found to be humorous.

In the eps. Stranger than Fiction, for some reason, the scene with Janette
and Emily Weiss makes me laugh. I love when Emily asks Janette if she would
like a drink and Janette turns to her and says, "I'm debating that."
Janette then licks her lips and gives Emily such a frightening, almost feral
look.

In the tag scene of the eps If Looks Could Kill, when the officers tease
Schanke for not remembering what happened at the spa, especially when the
one officer says, "Sounds like a computation error to me."
And in frustration, Schanke replies, "I can't remember, I just can't
remember."

There are so many others to mention, but I'll refrain from doing so and let
the next person pick some of them.

Besides Janette's obvious contemplation of having Emily
for a snack (but darnitall, she promised Nick she
wouldn't "do anything I wouldn't do" <g>), the funniest
thing about this scene is Jantte's Wild Woman hairdo. It
looked like she flew to the loft after forgetting to use
her windproof hairspray. <g>

Here's mine:

I remember seeing NICK KNIGHT with Rick Springfield
back in 1989 when it was first aired as a TV movie of
the week. I like the whole idea, but personally, Rick
Springfield did nothing for me, so I watched it,
enjoyed it, and promptly forgot it. (Although, living
in Hollywood, I found the idea of a slaughterhouse
operating on Hollywood Blvd. very funny, especially
after having lived behind a slaughterhouse at one
point in my life before moving to L.A.) Then, I heard
about the series on CBS and said to myself, "That
sounds like that Rick Springfield movie from a few
years ago", and didn't watch it. At that time, I
didn't know it was Ger.

Then in 1994-1995 (during the second season) I
attended a DOCTOR WHO convention. Nigel Bennett was
one of the other guests. He was on stage just before
Peter Davison (the reason I went to the Con), so I
went in an hour early and sat down so I would have a
good seat. I never even heard of Nigel Bennett before
that. But, when he started talking about FOREVER
KNIGHT, it sounded so interesting that I decided to
check it out.

When I got home, I checked the TV guide for FOREVER
KNIGHT. The first episode I saw was "Queen of Harps"
and I was instantly hooked. And I kicked myself for
not watching it from the beginning.

BTW, I consider myself a Dark Knightie first, but also
a Nick & Nat Packer, Caddy Whack, and Cousin of the
Knight. I should just face it, I'm a all-around
FOREVER KNIGHT Die Hard to the end!

I noticed this during the Monday marathon and again in
"For I Have Sinned" when Nick meets Father Rochfort
outside the Church. There is a quick cut to 2 guys
standing in a woods during the day. I have not idea
what this clip is from. At first I thought Sci-Fi was
throwing it in to screw up our tapes. But, it also
happened during a commerical, so I don't think they
did it on purpose.

Has anyone else noticed? Any ideas?

Subject: discussion list for Buffy & FK fans

I mentioned this yesterday, and a couple of people asked for more info so I
thought I'd post it separately.

I run an e-mail discussion list for fans of *BOTH* Buffy the Vampire Slayer and
Forever Knight. Please do NOT join if 1) you want to bash or stir things up
about one show over the other, or 2) are NOT at least 18. I have absolutely
nothing against teenagers, but I allow adult-natured stories, language, and
discussion, so don't want to get in trouble.

The usual rules of NO FLAMES are always strictly inforced. It is suppose to be a
fun list for people who do not take things too seriously. We can disagree on
whether we love or hate an episode (Julia K. and I almost always disagree - in
fact, we have an agreement to do so in order to keep our lives in balance), we
just can't bash another person for doing so.

A lot of the discussion does center around Spike, but all fans of both shows are
welcome (it just so happens there's a lot of Spike fans among the Cousins and
Ratpackers - must be something about British accents and vampires<g>) All the
characters have their fans - especially Clem, the cuddly demon.

Oh, there's a NO spoilers rule in effect right now, and all spoilers when that
rule is NOT in effect requires spoiler space. *New* episodes upon their first
airing require spoiler space for a week (and that goes for ANGEL episodes as
well) - though we don't lash out if anyone forgets.

The conversation is usually slow, though can get quite talkative at times!
<wRP/FK/BtVSg> Of course digest and "web only" subscriptions are allowed.

I loved to hear one of my favorite lines again while
watching "Fever" during the marathon. The line hits
me personally and its right on the mark. Its when Nat
tells Nick that his temperature is 98 degrees and
"that's not even human normal". Since my 'normal'
everyday temperature is 97.4 (not 98.6), does that
mean I'm not human.

My favorite episodes. Well, that's a toughie! I guess I would also base my
decision on certain episode themes in the series, which held my interest.

For I Have Sinned: The flashback with Joan of Arc and Nick is one of the
reasons I became hooked on FK; I love the interaction between the two of
them. Nick's struggle and the questioning of his own lost faith while
talking to her, her steadfast belief in her God and in her own faith. I
just love all of that. And it seemed natural that at the end of the
series, in LK, this same flashback would be shown again, and that IMO, Nick
had finally come full circle and regained his lost faith.

Father's Day: Great dialog between Nick and LC. Stirring scene between
David Constantine and Nick where he says to Nick that he just wants a new
start in life with his family, to be free to choose, and to give his son a
better life. And you can almost feel Nick's empathy/sympathy as he stands
by the wall and listens to David's wishes. As an aside, I liked that the
writers used the name Constantine in the show since my husband's name
Costantino is a derivative of it. <g>

Feeding the Beast and Games Vampires Play: Love eps. where Nick's dark,
vampiric side is apparent, but his mortal aspirations, and his moral
conscience refuse give into the evil, bestial side and he fights his way
back. (And as far as the Games Vampires Play eps goes, it's inspired me to
write my own FK Games Series on the subject of virtual reality.

Be My Valentine: Being such a romantic, I can't leave out this episode.
Everything's great about it! <g>

and is my absolute favorite of season 1: the highly under

story of this ep. It has the action, drama and suspense
of a full-length movie squeezed into 45 minutes. Really
good stuff. And Nick looks good enough to eat :)

When Nick tells Nat that Alyce & LC are the lucky ones there is no indication
that he is lying in order to cover up Alyce's continued existence. Later, when
he looks up toward the window where Alyce is, it is not clear (to me,
anyway & I've played this part back over & over trying to figure this
out--it's been bothering me for a long time) that he sees her. He may see
*something* or sense *something*, but not actually know that it is
Alyce. If LC brought her across, one would expect a family link, but
1) maybe LC deliberately interfered with that somehow or 2) it was
too early in the program for anyone to have thought of that or 3)
Nick was too weakened by poor diet & grade A Schanke to be able to
sense her.

sure we're all on the same page, we're a family and we're careful of each
other's feelings. I've always been very proud of the way Forkni-l doesn't have
flame wars over religion (we have a wide variety of faiths here) or sexual
orientation. Sure, like most lists, flames are agaimst the rules, but the great
thing about Forkni-l is that we don't make remarks like that to begin with.

Finally, please don't hesitate to write to me about anything. Keeping Forkni-l a
pleasant place for all of us is what I'm here for.

I can't remember whether or not that scene was in the CBS airings. I have a
feeling it was heavily cut if it was there. Anyway, I can't recall any
discussion at the time.

I do know that I my first thought was that maybe the superior did do it, not
because it made sense, but because the victim clearly knew her assailant. Then
I thought maybe the fiance did it because he'd found out the victim was having
an affair with the superior. I never saw the truth coming.

Boy, did Nick look good this morning. This one was one dark sexy show for
him. Loved the scene where he and Schankee are talking at Nick's appartment.
I didn't remember it. You'd think after nearly 800 years Nick would have
sense enough to keep some red wine around for guests and a bit of snack
food.:)=

This brings another thought up. How do you think Natalie explained the need
for Nick to have a transfusion on the spot when he didn't have any injuries
that we know of. Why wouldn't Scankee just think he would need food instead.
Always thought that was an odd thing.

Subject: What happened to the lipstick??

In this morning's episode when Nick is in the Ann's dressing room he takes
one of the lipsticks and smears a bit from it on three of his fingers.
Moment's later when she asks him to toss her top to her he grabs the white,
satiny item with the same hand that has the lipsticked fingers and manages
to not leave a trace of lipstick on it. <G>

I love watching for little things like that!

Is it not debatable in the FKverse that a person *has* to be *deliberately*
brought across? Could it be suggested that the "traditional" method is the most
reliable and the deliberate method, and so the preferred method, but it's also
possible for someone to come across accidentally, perhaps just by being bitten
and drained or semi-drained? Folklore doesn't always require that the victim be
a willing participant (i.e. drinking blood, etc.) to be converted, though I know
that has little account in the FKverse. If you think about it, though, Nat's
research does indicate that the vampire element could be a virus or somesuch,
and so possibly could be transmitted through the saliva, or other such intimate
contact. Likely, such an event would be a very rare anomaly, and perhaps would
have to rely on unusual circumstances -- some rare genetic makeup of the victim,
some disruption of the immune system, perhaps even some uncommon state of the
vampire at the time of the assault (his system at that time affected by some
environmental or somesuch factor). Or, heck, what if the vampire bit his tongue
or cheek while feeding? If this could be accepted, it could help explain how
Alyce *came* across (instead of being "brought" across) without Nick knowing and
without LC having time to complete such a process.

It's an idea, anyway, and one I had accepted without question until I saw the
debate raised here.
