From start to end, Nick sees himself as less than human. He believes that he lost his humanity when he chose to come back to LaCroix instead of passing into death. However, obvious physical differences aren't the mark of inhumanity; nor is his urge to drink blood--particularly once he decides to fight the urge to kill, even though he still needs blood to sustain him. He may not be alive as we are; but he's not dead. He may have urges that can lead to evil acts; but he also has a morality we approve. Comparing his behaviour with that of *humans* we condemn, we find them to be the inhuman ones. FK is very much a series that makes you think.
