Fwd: Ice Storm Roll Call ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 6 Jan 2014 02:36:07 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: Ice storm in Toronto I just got back from spending Christmas in England with my sister. She came to us last year; this time we went to her. Fortuitous good timing, as it turned out. The ice storm that hit this part of Canada over the holiday was so bad it made the international news. In my absence, a contractor was to do some renovations; so at least there was someone keeping an eye on the place. He phoned me a week ago with an update: the house had no power for at least five days. (Putting the work back a week, of course; but that's trivial.) I'm just so glad we were out of the country, especially considering my mother's age. I'd have been really worried, with the uncertainty and no heat or lights. Right over Christmas, too. As it is, I have to clear out a lot of perished goods from the refrigerator and freezer; but fortunately there was no damage to the house. However, I'm concerned how other people fared. I know I'm not the only FK fan hereabouts! Of course, no one could contact the list until they got their power back; and by that time they probably had more urgent things on their minds. Is everyone all right? I lost heat here probably on the two coldest days if the year in Houston. I am sure you would laugh but it is still cold to me. I was never warm in Ct. And it is still not as cold as your home town. Glad everyone is safe now. > On Jan 6, 2014, at 1:36 AM, Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> wrote: > > I just got back from spending Christmas in England with my sister. I'm fine, I hope we're all ok, and that those who don't have power will get it back soon! Gwen, I'm glad you're safely back and missed the worst of it. Steph, I sympathize. I'm originally from SC, so I know it feels just as bad to be without power in southern style cold weather. It's all a matter of what you're used to. So, how are the rest of us?
