Ahem: On this very day (or night) in the year 1968, in the city of Baltimore, of the State of Maryland, in the United States of America, Benjamin Langer Bass was born. We know him here as Ben Bass who graciously and most awesomely and unforgettably brought OUR Most Glorious Javier Vachon to unlife for us! For this, on behalf of Vaqs everywhere I extend our grateful thanks to Mr. Bass as well as our Birthday Congrats + Best Wishes for continued success + much happiness for him + his lovely wife --if he's reading from somewhere!!! ~Muchas Gracias para siempre! ~Angel~ VaqDreamingVaquera + INCArnate,wi RP + NA Tendencies ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Aug 2013 15:58:31 -0400 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: Re: "Last Act" - yet more discussion On Mon, 12 Aug 2013, Walt said: > I believe that later on in the series it was implied that > vampires could make normal human love, but there would > be a tendency that when climaxing they would bite their > partner as part of the culminating act. I'm not sure it was ever actually *implied*, but it was certainly inferred! It's probably the most common interpretation among FK fans, if only because it affords the best of both interpretations from a writer's perspective. One can use it to block Nick and Natalie consummating their love, *or* use it to justify a story in which Nat wants Nick to bring her over, *or* use it as extra motivation for Nick to follow Nat's directions for a cure, *or* contrive a clever way to satisfy the condition while leaving Nick as a vampire and Natalie as human > Finally, I think an important perspective is that of the > fan - viewer - reader and just how much he or she > wants to see Nick and Nat get it on. Oh, yes! And, to elaborate a bit: how much they want to write the pair of them in bed *now*. For, right now, Nick is vampire and Natalie is mortal; and, if you can't change the former and don't want to change the latter, then you are going to have to work *something* out. Interpreting canon to suit your preference is, by far, the simplest solution. > An interesting physiological aspect that I don't think > has been addressed is that the human sexual response > system is essentially hydrolic, and the fluid used is blood I'm pretty sure I brought it up in the *notes* to one of my FK4 episodes; but yeah--on the whole, fan writers aren't big on actually dissecting vampires to see how the systems would have to work. It goes hand in hand with the lack of lab work in scenes set at the morgue. Natalie is a pathologist; but people just don't know enough medical science to write a scene that is goof-free. Also, of course, in the sex department, it might lead to a discussion of various mechanical contrivances, such as pumps. I suspect a lot of fans--like people in real life--see this level of necessary preparation as spoiling the spontaneity. A bit too real for the romance-writers. It could be employed for humour, I guess. (I suspect, in real life, a healthy sense of humour would be a great assistance to people in such a situation.) Ah, if only vampires could use Viagra! Considering that they only seem to be able to properly digest blood-based substances, first you'd have to figure out how to make viagra blood based, and.... Honestly? Since sex makes the heart rate and such speed up, I always assumed that during such an act, vampires' pulses and respiration would approach the low end of human normal during the act. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Aug 2013 13:50:59 -0700 From: Andrew Caruthers <slinter@j.......> Subject: Re: "Last Act" - yet more discussion All true, from a physiological standpoint. But after all, the stuff is rigidly controlled! On Thu, 15 Aug 2013 16:49:16 -0400 Laura Davies <bratling2@g.......> writes: > Well, getting it in sufficient quantities is hard.
