Here's my take:
One should always have sufficient context in which to frame a reply
-- no more, no less.
Sometimes, if the point took a lot of space to make (say, it included
a number of references to different episodes, or different characters
an actor has played during his/her career), the quoted context might
run six or seven lines. Under these rules, it requires the replier to
paraphrase, rather than quote the original poster.

It sounds like much of *this* issue has been resolved by the demise
of the live show and the evolution of electronic communications technology.

This is still a salient issue, though mostly among those new to the
Internet, those who are too lazy to edit, and those whose systems do
not allow them to edit or truncate the preceding thread in a reply
without deleting the entire thread. (Gmail is like that, and much to
my annoyance, SMS messaging has become like that as well.)

If we still have digest subscribers, we need some version of the
rule; however, keeping the quote length to 4-5 lines may need to be
relaxed (a few more lines added here or there).
The other place where limits might be an issue to revisit would be on
FKFIC-L -- do we still have technical issues with longer part posts
and (outside of WARs) too much volume per day?

Don't believe we've met, but there are plenty of old fans still hangin'
'round. I only discovered that one of my favorite 90s shows had an online
fandom three wars back, even though I'd been a fan in the beginning. :)

I haven't kept up with the wars at all... I think the last one I had
anything to do with was... 8? At least going through (very!) old email I
see notes about war 8... so if they've been yearly, yeah, definitely
missed me. :)
I ended up in a lot of factions, usually playing along with the N&NPack
- or Dark Perks. And if the FKFanfic site behaves itself, you'll see
some writing from me on there. It's been a *long* time...

Oh, they haven't been yearly. I've been on list for oh... 12 years now,
and we just finished the third war since I found online. I'm a Merc and
got a *gulp* promotion this last war. :) By conviction, I'm anything NN,
dark, light and in-between, and through friendships from those who for
various reasons are no long with us, I'm an addict by association. :)
Good thing is that I guess I don't hafta pay rent next war seeing as I'll
be collectin' it!
