Subject: FKFicFest 2012: Day 9: Fourteen Drabbles Today! Closing Ceremonies!

Tuesday was the ninth and last day of FKFicFest 2012! As the game
ends each year, our tradition has been to recognize the players who
queued their stories completely, correctly and on-time with a custom
drabble (a story of exactly 100 words) tailored to each. This year,
for the first time, *all* the players made it on time -- "door prize"
drabbles all around!

It took a team effort to generate these "party favors":

It's never too late to read, enjoy and comment on any and all of the
fest stories! No deadlines, no penalties! Jump in whenever you
can. And please consider patting an author on the back to encourage
her to write more FK for us all! (The players are now free to bring
their game stories home to fkfic-l. I hope that many will!)

For more information on this annual FK game, see us at:
http://fkficfest.livejournal.com/ *or*
http://fkficfest.dreamwidth.org/ . For a full list of this year's
stories, see: http://fkficfest.livejournal.com/36472.html .

All good things must come to an end, including each round of
FKFicFest. However, we do plan to play again next year! Join
us! And in the meantime, check out the low-key, no-commitment "after
party" on FKCommentFic: http://fkcommentfic.livejournal.com/ .

You'd be welcome! Briefly, the game works like this:

1. Each player submits a slate of three story prompts (a prompt may
be a key word, a quotation, a scenario description, a "what if?"
question, etc.). One prompt must be "gen" (not romance), one
romance, and one "wildcard" (either). This gives the writer options.

2. The game moderator (me) matches each prompt slate with a writer,
based on what the players have told me (on the sign-up form) that
they most like to write.

3. Each player picks one of the three prompts on the received slate
and writes a story of at least 1,000 words ("a picture is worth a
thousand words") to match it.

We have one month of sign-ups, and then two months in which to write
the stories. For all the nitty-gritty details, check out this year's
"Rules and Sign-ups Post" here:
http://fkficfest.livejournal.com/28562.html . (It's long: sorry. I
try to cover every possibility.) Players do need to have an AO3
account (that's where the stories are queued for release), but I have
invitations for all FKFicFest players; just ask. Players also need
to watch the FKFicFest community, either on LiveJournal or on
Dreamwidth (we mirror).

Thanks for asking!

Subject: Best Fics Wanted!

Hi! Wow, it's been a while. So, here's the deal: a while ago I was given a
Kindle as a gift, and I wasn't sure what to do with it. I don't buy books
very often, I get them at the library, and when I *do* buy them, I like them
to be in physical form. Then it recently struck me that it would be perfect
for keeping all my favorite fanfics on, only it's been a while since I've had
the time to read much of anything but professional stuff, so I've forgotten
what the best fics are. As I really don't have time to go back and re-read
every fic ever written to find the very best, so I thought I'd turn to y'all
for some help.

Please, tell me your favorite fics! The thoughful, the silly, and the purple,
as long as they're PG-13 and under, I'd love to know so I can get this thing
loaded up! (A week-long road trip in a few weeks means I'll finally have time
to read!)

                                                                                   - Megan (really hoping this message doesn't end up with funky formatting)

"Eternal nights too short,
How quickly melt away,
With all the love we shared once,
Forever in a Day."

Subject: Faction icons

Now that FK Fic Fest is over, I plan to start posting new faction icons
again. First, though, here's another batch of icon designs at the larger
350px size: http://greerwatson.livejournal.com/17650.html. Most of them are
familiar factions, but there are some rare and new ones in there as well.

Enjoy!
