If you attend Virginia Tech or have children/grandchildren there, please let us know they are okay if you have a chance. Forkni-l members have stood by each other during tragic times in the past, and if anyone is directly affected today, we are here for you. --Libs ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2007 21:21:24 -0500 From: "Orel, Sara" <orel@t.......> Subject: travelling to Toronto I am going to be in Toronto next month (I expect to get there late on the 6th of May, and leave on the 10th). I am going to be doing some research at the ROM (actually trying to arrange a loan for my university gallery from the collection -- wish us luck!). But I have evenings free as far as I know and I would love to get together with some FK folks if you are around. I don't necessarily need a tour, but would be happy to come for one (I lived in Toronto for six years, but left just when they were starting to film the first season so while I have a good basic geography, I don't know all the specific places). I am probably most interested, however, in maybe going for a cup of coffee or an Italian dinner in Little Italy (that is where I lived for my last couple of years, at College and Grace). Are there many FK fans still around Toronto, and perhaps interested in socializing with a forlorn and lost Merc some evening? Where I live in the US, we usually say "X"s and "O"s in tic-tac-toe, not "crosses" and "circles," so perhaps that's why I've missed the association. But Nick wouldn't miss it, would he? Especially if Schanke were drawing his "X"s as "+"s. What is the usual Canadian expression for the markings in tic-tac-toe? ><<What I found interesting was that all games they had done so far >had ended in a deuce. ... I would have assumed that Nick, being a >chess player, would have had the upper hand.>> Almost all tic-tac-toe games between adults tie, in my experience. It's very easy to maneuver your opponent into a tie, and very hard to beat someone who knows how to maneuver a tie. I think I'm going to interpret Nick and Schanke being evenly matched in tic-tac-toe as a symbolic affirmation of their partnership being one of equals well-matched, if very different. Like Libby, I'm wondering if we have anyone at Virginia Tech, or anyone with loved ones there. There is also the weather situation in the Northeast U.S. Are we all o.k.? Hi- I'm not at VA Tech, but I do know people there, and fortunately they are safe. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. Unfortunately, even though I'm not in the Northeast (here in Southern Virginia), the storm the other night threw a tree into my new house. I am fine, but my house is a bit less new... Lisa K.
