Subject: Webpage on "Ashes to Ashes"

I've just added a new bit to my FK4 website. I've put up a transcription of
the episode "Ashes to Ashes", and a critique of it.
To do my own episodes, I often had to transcribe bits of the show; but I
also transcribed four episodes in their entirety, and two others for which
more than half was done. Unfortunately, most of this was never backed up,
and got lost when my old computer crashed a couple of years ago. (And
there's an Awful Warning for you.) However, for "Ashes to Ashes" I also
wrote a very detailed critique; and so the file survived, since both had
been sent to a friend, who had them saved on her computer, and could
therefore send them back to me.
So here they are for you.

The transcription is obviously going to be of less interest to most of you,
since a lot of people have the third season on tape. It is, however, very
much more detailed than the usual sort of transcription, since I did it in
the same format that I used in writing my own fan fiction. That means that
you get a fair amount of description of the actions of the people on screen,
and all the editing--cut by cut, and (where relevant) even frame by frame.
This may be of use to anyone who wants to analyse exactly what happened in
some scene or other, since stuff can go past really quickly on screen.
In any case, if you've read my FK4, you might want to see what a *real*
episode looks like in the same format.

The critique is also pretty detailed. Some of the things I mention are not
much more than snarks; but I also analyse the plot and dialogue, using all
Ye Englishe Departmente skills that I have learned as a grad student, plus a
dash of linguistics.
I got into analysing the canonical episodes--though mostly not
writing the analysis down--when I started writing my own FK fan fiction. It
was a way of figuring out how and why things worked (or not). In fact, it's
especially valuable If something doesn't work. If you ask why not, you wind
up unravelling something about writing TV. "That story didn't work
because...." And that tells you something about the factors that have to be
taken into account. Then next, you try to figure out what *might* have
worked. And why that would have been better (or not). And how one thing
interacts with another, and why. Etcetera, etcetera.
Then you try not to make those mistakes when you write your own
material.
(Then you make your own mistakes, instead.)

Like all my own stuff, the transcript is in a zip file. You download it
from the homepage for the episode, by clicking on a gold scarab. You get to
the critique by clicking on the other scarab.

And you can get to the homepage from the main page of my website. Or, if
you don't have that bookmarked, you can use this url:
    http://ca.geocities.com/gwatson2@r......./AtoA.original.homepage.htm

Any discussion? Of this or other episodes. A bit of chat on the list,
maybe? It's been a bit quiet lately.

Information. I was under the impression that you
needed to have a passport, but I have used my birth
certificate and photo id as recently as December.

Is there a fic based on or including the song "Boulevard of Broken
Dreams" by Green Day?
I was listening to the radio here at work today and it sounded so
familiar (not just the song, I have heard it before - but it seemed
so connected to FK and Nick)
There may not be, it might just be connecting in my head and
screaming to be added to the long pile of story ideas I have and have
been unable to work on lately.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Subject: Janette's Costumes

Hello everyone,

I’ve been searching for Janette’s costumes, specifically the raven dresses.
Does anyone know what became of them? I always loved her style and I am
close to her in size. I read some things were auctioned off at “Syndicon”
and “Bridging the Knight.” I’m trying to find out which fans won them and
if, after all of these years, they’d be interested in selling them. I'm very
willing to pay handsomely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kristin

I, for one, would love to see one if it hasn't already been done. Since I
can't possibly read all the war posts, the quote list is always wonderful for
me!

Subject: War 12 Quote list.

Hey folks,

I was going through my email the other day and came
across the posts from war 12 (which I'd forgotten I
had).
Which leads me to this question...
Has anyone done a quote list from the last war? And,
if nobody has, does anyone (besides me) want a quote
list done?

Krista..

who bought it up.

And, apologies for sending it to fkfic-l aswell,
butterfingers here hit the wrong button. Blame it on
the fact I haven't had my hand surgery yet. ;)
