Subject: Change in Email Address for Birthday Info

Hi Y'all!

For many years now I've used a single email address, eowyn3@j......., as
my primary email. Due to a major snafu with Juno and their crummy
computers I have had to change to a new email address. For those of you
who might be thinking of sending me your birthday info you will need to
send it to: eowyn23@j....... . Please note that the "3" is now a "23".
And if there's anyone who has my address in your address books and I
haven't sent you a private email, this is your chance to update or
delete <G>. Thanks for your kind attention.

And to Don, the list gardener, I am deeply grateful for your help in
getting resubbed to the lists under the new email!!!

missing it last night because of the Juno problem. GRRRRRRRR!

Subject: Forever Knight & Fan Fiction on the Radio

Hi, Everyone!

This is an update and reminder. Iım very excited about fan fiction (ff)
finally getting the recognition it deserves. There are so many talented ff
writers, not just in the Forever Knight fandom, but in many fandom's across
the Internet. Did you know there are well known published authors who
started their writing career with fan fiction? Itıs a great way to hone the
writing craft, with an instant audience.

As many of you know Iıve been writing for some time now, mostly Forever
Knight fan fiction. Jewel Adams, multiple published author, and host of
Romance Authorıs Radio Show, asked me to be a guest on her show. I honestly
was shocked and hesitant when she first asked. Jewel really wanted to
inform the public about fan fiction. Sheıs very supportive of writers, no
matter what theyıre writing. After several conversations, I agreed to talk
with her. This is an international broadcast on Artist First Online Radio
Station.

***Originally, my interview was for an hour, but yesterday she asked if I
could do a two hour show on Forever Knight and the fan-fiction genre. She
felt an hour wasnıt long enough to thoroughly explore the topic. Now, after
an in-depth discussion with her, Iım excited to share my knowledge of this
genre, that has exploded on the Internet.

I would love to invite you to listen in. I donıt know everything about the
genre, but I have done considerable research of why people read and write
fan fiction, the legal aspects, and the history of how and when it began.
You might be surprised at how long itıs been around! Weıll talk about how
aspiring writers can benefit from writing fan fiction. If you have any
suggestions, or questions, please forward them to me at debh@erinet.com

I hope to get a chance to talk about everything I have planned, especially
Forever Knight and the abundance of talent in our fandom. Unfortunately,
itıs live and Iıll have to go with her lead. Trust me, Iıll talk about FK
as much as possible, including the release of the DVDs!

Iıll also briefly discuss original manuscripts Iım working on:

Discovered Desires--A Paranormal/vampire romance tied in with the Cherokee
Indians
Betrayed Love--A Scottish Historical Romance, and
Endless Love--A Paranormal/Time Travel/Reincarnation Romance.

Please join us, this Wednesday, January 19th, at 10:00 P.M. (EST)

If you have any questions you would like to personally ask me, please email
them to:

Please put ³Deborahıs Interview² in the subject header

To listen in:

Go to: http://www.jewelsway.com/

Scroll down until you see a picture of an old-fashioned radio on the left,
ŒArtist First, Online Radio Stationı. Click on the microphone.

***You must have a media player to listen.

This is the radio programıs home page. At the moment, Jewel has a banner
running across the page announcing my appearance on her talk show.

Also, go to the ³Author² button at the top of the page and click. Youıll
see a list of authors appearing on the show. Read more about the author and
their books or stories by clicking on the authorıs name.

I hope youıll join us! (Iıve had bronchitis for five weeks, and my voice
sounds like ³Frog Lady². <BG> What youıll hear doesnıt sound like me‹I

This is a good question! Since KC and I will not be home to listen (nor
will we have computer access at that time), I'd like to either record it, or
get a copy of the recording from someone who is recording it. I know KC is
especially anxious to hear it, since she still can not see very well and has
been relying on me and other family members to read everything to her.
Any and all help would be appreciated!

Subject: The Fate of "On Holy Ground"

McLisa wrote regarding Sony monitoring the list:

>>>>It's possible and even probable. Last time we had messages on list
about an FK novel which was being published in a professional-quality book,
the author got a cease and desist order from Sony. There were other
places Sony could have heard about the book, but this list was the most likely.

Regarding the fate of "On Holy Ground", the FK novel published by Jean Graham
to raise money for charity and which was reported to Sony, resulting in a "cease
and desist" order on threat of dire legal action----I have it on most excellent
authority that no one on FORKNI-L, mole or otherwise, (no FK fan at all, in
fact) turned the book in. In fact, I know who did it and why (please don't ask
for details, suffice it to say I know the whole story---I was the beta reader
for the novel---and the motivation for this nefarious deed was not related to
either copyright infringement or Forever Knight in any way).

I don't think we have to worrry about Sony monitoring this list, not so many
years after the show was in production. The OHG affair was an exception. I do
think we should go on publishing fanzines for charity and stories online for our
own amusement. Just be sure that you gain no profit from the sale of the zine,
and to include the standard disclaimers that FK belongs to Sony, Paramount, and
the other related PTB.

(The disclaimer/copyright in my charity fanzine, "A Taste of Forever" is worded
as follows, if you're curious:

"Copyright İ 1999 by Goldfish Press, Nancy Kaminski, Cindy Ingram, and Kathy
Whelton, editors. All rights
reserved. Copyright reverts to authors upon publication. Use of copyright
notice is not meant to infringe on
existing copyrights held by James Parriott, Tri-Star Pictures, Sony Corp., or
Paragon Entertainment. No portion
of this publication may be reproduced by any means whatsoever except as
permitted in writing by the
authors. This publication is sold for the benefit of the Children’s Hospital
Foundation."

I researched appropriate wording in many fanzines and online and came up with
this. The copyright applies to the zine itself---the authors mentioned above
are the individual authors of the stories included. The notice seems to have
served its purpose. Feel free to copy is you so desire.)

Nancy Kaminski
Gee, it's been *6 years* since we did the zine?? Tempis fugit!

Nancy,

You may well be right, but an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of
cure. And it wouldn't take much for something to draw Sony's attention and
bring an invisible observer to this list--or to our listserv, with a friendly
request/court injunction to provide the backups with the list's postings.

Politicians have a simple test for ethics: "Don't do anything that you would be
ashamed to have your mother read about on the front page of the newspaper."
Similarly, it's wise for use to behave as if everything we post on this list is
going to be forwarded to Sony's president and/or legal department, labeled with
a yellow sticky marked "Urgent".

Your humble & obedient servant,
Angela Gottfred

Subject: FK Moment... but wish I hadn't

After this morning, I can certainly sympathize with Nick in 'Dark
Knight.'

This morning my car got totalled. (the other person's fault, they
were doing an illegal turn and I ran into them at full speed, but
parties are ok)

But anyhoo, back to the FK Moment, as I look back now several hours
later, I keep thinking of Schanke... I hit her, skidded across the
other side of the road... couldn't break (break lines probably cut
from the impact, jumped over the curb and rammed into a tree. (Thank
god for air bags.)
But now I get the picture of Schanke trying to steer the careening
caddy and still the damage it incurred.

Well, gotta go online and check the prices of cars. (And I was only
6 months away from paying off my car)

RIP - Amanda's Carolla :(

The thing is, I haven't seen anything on either PSU list in all the years I've
been subscribed to them that would draw Sony's legal ire. This fandom has been
remarkably well-behaved and conscious of who really owns these characters.
Further, even when the show was in production and presumably they had someone here
(and when Nigel Bennett was subscribed, incidentally) and fanfic was flying
fast and furious, they ignored us. There were fanzines aplenty then---anything
happen? No. There were over a hundred posts to this list a day, and the fic list
was constantly busy. Did they do anything? No. There were (and are) many
websites with FK screen captures, fan art, and fanfic archived. Have they gone
ballistic and demanded that they be taken down? No.

So, based on past experience, and based on how much list volume has diminished
by now, I still say, "Don't worry." If we go on behaving in the same way, keep
on doing the charity zines with disclaimers as we have in the past, I'm pretty
darned sure that Sony will shrug and say, "so what?" Frankly, we're way too
small and they're way too big to worry about us. And the fact is that, outside
several notorious companies, fanfic is largely ignored by the copyright owners as
too big to eradicate and too beneficial in the end for their product. It's free
publicity, after all.

Until I see someone say, "For sale: Nick Knight Flying Vampire Frisbees for $25
each" (thus ticking off both Sony AND Whammo at once!) I'm not worrying. I
think we already behave this way.
