I don't know, I'm a little concerned. After all, at the end of the last
one, the Nunkee temple was destroyed, along with the ratpacker tunnels, two
characters sustained permanant damage (ie-death and llama-ism) and Nick and
Nat had an amicable seperation due to Vachon kissing someone when he was in
Nick's body. not to mention the wanton destruction of Nick's crusaider
shirt! What kind of damage can this next war come up with to beat that?!

Fond memories..<sigh>

If the Die-Hards or the FoDs want The Enforcer to play with them, I'm willing
to jump into the fray again. Not sure how much I'll be able to play (it
depends on my work schedule at the time) but I've had fun since I started doing
this with War 2!

hmmm... the Ratpackers closed the tunnels... so now they're above the
ground!

And besides... as soon as we start the War, the Mercs are doing the
court-martial trial they should have done at the end of the last War. Which
we missed because the defendant (me) ran out of town early.

That would have been War 6.

>6 or 7)? I'd like to be able to offer a single place to find the URLs to

I've got all the posts for War 7, but have never been able to find the time
to organize them. I seem to recall sending all that to somebody else
(Jarvinia) who was going to make a page. I don't know if anything ever
came of that, though.

War 5 is archived at http://www-personal.umich.edu/~weyrbrat/war/, which
worked for me this evening.

So... the only war link I'm missing is War 5. Does anyone know of an active
link to the War 5 archives?

Not necessarily, I would imagine that those who have
lost loved ones in violent circumstances have some
pretty tortured imaginings about the loved one's final
moments. It could be what Joe's brother looked like
in his nightmares.

BTW, I haven't seen this episode in a loooong time, I
can't remember, do we know for sure this is Reese's
actual brother? Could Reese himself have been in
Vietnam and had a close buddy and they called each
other brother?

I've actually never participated in, or even read a
war, but I got a huge kick out of the "Season of
Unreason"
stories.

In a slight segué, I was at Barnes & Noble recently
and saw that they are selling these wonderful little
plush animals, a bit bigger than Beanie Babie sized
that match animals in stories in famous Children's
books. There's this really great fuzzy llama. Gonna
hafta add to my collection. <g>

Okay, I just had to dig DoK out since the phrase 'little brother' didn't
sound right to me. I was right. Jordan's ghost called Reese 'little Joe'
which further muddies what his relation to Reese was. Although Joe is
holding a picture of Jordan in dress uniform at the end. Which tends toward
the family thing. If they were in combat together I would think he would
have a picture from the battle field.

And here's a thought. Who says that Jordan was killed in Vietnam? He could
just as easily have been in the Korean War, in which Canada did have troops.
Place Joe's age at around 50 during DoK he would have been between 9 and 12
during the Korean War era. The prefect age for an older brother to
affectiontly use the term 'little Joe' to refer to his younger brother.

It has been too long since I've seen this episode.. but I remember
Jordan's clothing and equipment as being Vietnam era instead of
Korean.
I guess I need to dig a tape out tonight to be sure.

Paula says

From what I remember of Joe's ghost, that was Viet-Nam era, tropical region
combat gear. I can't say whether or not it was recognizably American or
Canadian. Do we have anybody who can check on that? I like the idea that it was
the Korean War. Even if it was actually Viet-Nam combat fatigues, we could
chalk that up to the same lack of strict historical accuracy that gave us a
modern white rose for Fleur in the BMV flashbacks, and a style of binding on the
manuscript she was reading in the garden which cannot possibly be earlier than
about 1850.

I agree about the timing and Reese's age during Korea making perfect sense for
the "Little Joe" nickname.

The character's name is "Jordan Reese"

I think you're right, and timeline-wise, it makes a lot more sense for it to
be Vietnam era. As a child, born in 1964, I had the opportunity to meet
Americans living in the forests in Canada trying to stay out of the war.
Later as an adult I've met Canadian veterans trying to get the recognition
they deserved for their involvement. Some joined because they wanted to go
to war, some because they believed in it, some just because they couldn't
find the jobs they wanted here.

Canadians have always served in armies of other countries for various
reasons:

"Canadian Forces were being cut back and Vietnam allowed Canadian youth to
join the US military where they would be taught skills that were not
available in their own country. Helicopter flying and mechanics was the goal
of many young Canadian men. Another reason to join was the fight against
communism and still others joined for adventure or personal reasons."

Hi, Doris,

I feel really stupid but I need a basic refresher course on FK's handling of
the vampire thing. Blame of the Buffy fic I've been reading but I can't
remember the do's and don'ts.

In the FK universe,

1. Do vampires have reflections?
2. I know that vampire don't dissolve into dust, but staking and fire are
the only ways to murder one, right? Aside from the sun, that is.
3. How far does the bloodlink go? Is that one of the more "fanon" kind of
thing? I mean, we define it for the purposes of our story as it was never
clearly outlined on the show.

I probably will have more questions because, God help me, I am writing a
real fanfic at last. Any info you can provide will be deeply appreciated.
as always,
Kat
