McLisa here, joining Laurie of the Isles in extending my own condolences and
deepest sympathy to those of us in Canada over the tragedy. For those who
haven't heard, in the middle of last night an American F16 pilot in Afghanistan
mistook Canadian troops who were practice-firing live ammunition for an attack
on himself. He dropped a bomb on them, killing four and injuring eight.

Weren't men of senatorial rank barred from marrying freedwomen and siring

I don't see why anything has to be admitted. Maybe they could even be
mentioned. Why can't Nock still be alive and have gotten Nat to a hospital.
Who know what happened in the next second. There are many possibilities.
LaCroix could have knocked Nick out and taken Nick away. He could have
called 911 and left the phone off the hook. Nick could have noticed Nat
still breathing and taken jher to a hospital. LaCroix might have knocked
Nick out and brough Nat across himself. There are so many possibilies. Many
Many have been writtena bout in Fanfic, why couldn't they be reality. Maybe
Nick is also an elder in a new show. I don't see any finality in LK.

I've never thought any of the series incarnations of ST after the
original were as good as the original.

Although I love the original first season cast of FK, I'd certainly be
willing to at least see what other actors could do with the parts or
similar roles (I liked the series remake of Dark Shadows). FK
itself introduced new characters every season, after all. And while
I can't say I loved all those new characters, the show with them
still was good.

Or spin off a newly-created vamp, and show them fighting the battle that
Nick lost, trying to retain their humanity against the
nearly-irresistible cravings that vampire flesh is heir to, and trying
to find their way in the vampire community.

Hm. I'm not sure about that. It's been a while since I've seen Last Knight
but I think they left it pretty open-ended. We don't actually know if
LaCroix killed Nick, if Nat really died or any of that. I think that if
there were to be any movies or a "reincarnation" of the show you could pick
it up just fine and make it actually pretty believable (I mean, they had
some holes in the show anyway and they patched those up well enough). That's
really the beauty of Last Knight. They left it open to being picked up.
That's why there have been so many fanfics dealing with that very issues,
and there were some great resolutions out there too. I don't know if that
makes sense or not. . .Although, I have to say, I don't know how well
picking up the show again would be. . .the movies would be good but I think,
as everyone is saying, you couldn't really bring back the show with all the
actors and everything. . .and a new incarnation of it with different actors.
. .i think it would be a little weird. . .not saying it wouldn't work, I
mean, look at what happened with Star Trek and the Next Generation. . . I
just think that a big part of FK was the actors, they really brought
something to the show that made it what it was. . .but i'm rambling. . .i
should go now. . .have a good evening everyone. . .

The injured/dead are being transported through our airbase here in
Germany - and everyone here is pretty much devastated at the tragedy.
It was an awful, awful accident.

Tracker is on mornings here at 5am... so, I've now
tried to start catching it at that time. <yawn... but
I have to leave for work at 6 anyway.>

This morning was an ep where I actually saw Ger for
maybe a whole minute! Talking a cell phone to some
woman who was framing Cole for murder.

Sigh.... I never get to see FK anymore, and can't
record since we moved the VCR into the kids room.
Hoping to get the Dish PVR soon.

Is anybody interested in a get-together in the Chicago
area? Stomping grounds of Nick's pre-Toronto
incarnation.

Lots of fun stuff here... and I believe Tokaara and
Wolfy are in this area, still.

Great America, museums galore (if you've never been to
the Mus. of Science & Industry in Chicago, it's a
MUST!), the lakeshore, baseball at Wrigley, (Nick
would have never seen a Cubs game at Wrigley... they
didn't have night games until 1988.)

We tried to do a baseball gathering a few years ago,
but schedules just didn't work out. (Last minute
idea.)

If you might be interested, let me know. The hubby is
taking a week to go camping in Colorado with his
buddies, so I'm entitled to do something for myself
this summer, too. :-)

Excerpt from the SciFi Channel Newsletter #260:

Anthony Michael Hall co-stars in The Dead Zone with former Star Trek: Deep
Space Nine actor Nicole de Boer as Sarah and Chris Bruno as Bannerman. The
series, currently in production in Vancouver, B.C., premieres in June.

Eliza asked:

Marrying them, yes; siring children on them, no. That's not to say there
weren't plenty of patricians with bastards by freedwomen or slaves.
Decorum, however, would prevent most patricians from making any sort of show
over such progeny.

In addition to written laws, Roman society (like high society in Victorian
England) had things that 'weren't done', and the webs of status, heritage,
birthlines, clientage and patronage were as compelling, if not more, than
the actual law.
