Well, even with the blips and cuts I'm recording everything, if for no other
reason than to have a second set with decent reception (unlike my other set).
I have noticed that FK seems, for some reason or another, to have more
blips/blurriness than other shows...at least from my point of view. I will
certainly not be taping over my old eps, even if about a dozen of them are
getting close to being unwatchable. Wish it would come out on DVD....

BTW, has anyone else noticed that the site address the Sci-Fi Channel is
showing during their commercials for FK is wrong? Or am I just seeing things?
They have http://scifi.com/foreverknight shown, which leads to a 'not found'
page, and the actual site is http://scifi.com/fknight so...?

Wow. I guess I shouldn't complain about a few sound blips -- sounds like
there are worse problems elsewhere. I haven't seen anything like this, and
I've caught everything but "Dark Knight" on this new run. Advantage to
working at home: FK is now my designated workout/lunch hour, so I can get
those things done while taping the show and pausing out the commercials.
:-)

The difference in the problems everyone's reporting do suggest that the
problem lies more with local cable companies than with SciFi, tho. Maybe
it's a satellite thing, that just happens to occur at that time, with the
reception at the different companies having different problems as a result.
Stranger things have happened.

And a "me too" re: missing that chunk of the "I Will Repay" scene. But
overall, I've been pleasantly surprised by the way they choose to cut (since
not doing it is not an option -- these puppies ran 43 minutes in the U.S.
first season, IIRC, with six more in Canada; syndicated hours these days get
41). I'm glad I'm not the one deciding what has to go. They particularly
seem to be making an effort to include the footage we didn't see here first
time around. Even though some of it is deliberate filler -- the Vampire
Cabin Fever sequences, f'rinstance, with Nick playing chess with himself or
sitting on the windowsill brooding or (my personal favorite) playing a
morose game of 78-pickup with a Tarot deck (and I still swear Ger was trying
to hit the camera with those cards!) -- it's almost always great character
stuff. The CBS cuts were much more A-plot oriented, and it's cool that
SciFi seems to understand that the fans tend to be more character-oriented.

Bev, you might very well be correct.

I responded to Kristin about her interference problem saying I had no
problem. I'm on TIme Warner in the middle of Manhattan. Could it be that we
have very clear sound and picture because we just recently upgraded to the
digital signal? Hmmm? Something to ponder.

While I *loved* Julia's answer >(it was brought over in 1993....), with
very little cheese, I suppose a case could be made for a simulcast on an AM
station, say... CERK? <g>

As long as we're grilling the cheese, I want to know -- how was the old,
frail acupuncturist in Cherry Blossoms able to lug Nick up the stairs to his
apartment after he immobilized him with the needle?

Very good Julia.

We know Nick kept the car in original equipment but just to tell people out
there that back in 1992, and currently, there is a radio tech listed in
Hemming's Motor News that can covert the original AM radios of the 60's and
50's to include FM. I personally would not do this to my 62 Olds as I also
prefer original equipment. In addition, where I have my car stored, 1230 AM
plays only 40's, 50's music. So it kinda' adds to the originality of the car.

My experience is similar to someone elses. I was a huge Dark Shadows fan in
the 60's. So about 2 summers ago I started revisiting Dark Shadows then
waking a bit earlier before DS came on and I'd catch the last of Forever
Knight. Can't even tell you what episode grabed me. I remember seeing a few
episodes during its original run on late night. I was pretty scared of
horror is those days, especially at night. Dark Knight and the one with the
haunted house are a couple I remember. Probably the freakiest of the series
as far as scary LaCroix and ghosts. I was draw to Nick by his desire to be
human, forgiven and his love for Natalie. When I woke late one morning and
saw the last 20 min of Last Knight I freaked and went to the net to find info
on the series and as they say the rest is history......I have enjoyed meeting
so many people and writing stories. Most of mine start where last Knight
lasft off...there just has to be more to the story! :)=

Subject: Weird FK alumni night

Tonight, as I was chatting with a group of Fk fans on IRC
when my sister called me to the TV room. She sounded too
urgent so I went and I saw Cat Disher guest starring on
the Canadian lawyer show "the Associates." Later tonight,
I was watching an episode of "The Crow: stairway to
heaven" when I saw Michelle Thrush, the native psychic
woman from "Blackwing". She was, again, playing an
educated native woman who could understand the spirit
world. I thought it was strange to have two alumni
sightings in one night.

By the way, I'm starting to get hooked on "the Crow". It
has some kind of an FK feel to it with the precinct and
the loft and the undead guy. And Michelle was the second
FK alumni I saw on the show (the first was the woman who
played Christie Black in Strings.) Is it just me, or has
anyone else felt the FK vibe from this show too?

PS. What's too much fun about the Crow is that it is
mostly filmed in Vancouver and the suspended bridge they
show in the dream sequences which is supposed to lead to
the land of afterlife, is actually two blocks from our
house.

I agree. That's why I'm one of the supporters of "Knight
Vision" and never worry about things posted there. I'm
just saying that it seems like the TPTB gods seem to have
this thing about e-bay that makes them all red and
thundery when they catch their stuff being auctioned
there.

What, the license holders? They have already proven that
they are thick as a brick not noticing such a profitable
venue. Even I get temped to sell my FK stuff when I see
how high the bids go sometimes. I probably would have if
I wasn't so attached to them and hadn't bid high to get
them myself.

That's not necessarily true anymore. Remember the whole Napster thing? Nobody
was selling them for profit, but some of those who just downloaded songs got in
trouble and had to pay fines. Granted, these were the ones who downloaded 1000's
of songs and not just one or two. But Napster was the only entity technically
making a profit there, as far as I could tell from reading the news. And look
what happened to them.

Also, with DVDs -- I just got my first DVD player, and will probably have to buy
a new TV because I have a TV/VCR combo. Copyright protection on current DVDs
makes the picture quality poor for that type of setup. Nobody's technically
getting in trouble, but the industry automatically assumes that we're all going
to copy our DVDs to video tapes and sell them, not just watch them. Which is
why I'm going to have to spend more money than I wanted to just to get a DVD
player.

Taking all this into account, What do you think will happen if Forever Knight
fans start selling video copies and DVD copies for profit? At the current
height of Hollywood's copyright paranoia, (and I say it's paranoia because our
fair use rights are being eroded just because there are some bad apples in the
barrel), we could be completely shut down. Which is why the list owners don't
allow posts about selling tapes for profit.

It would be wonderful if TPTB would allow us to sell unlicensed merchandise, or
even offer licenses of some sort to fans so we could legally sell it. Until
copyright laws are changed, it won't happen. Let's just hope that if there is
a Sony person lurking on the list, he/she will go back to his/her superiors and
suggest that they start selling FK tapes and DVDs. Even if was just through
COlumbia House or something, I'd be interested.

You don't have to purchase a new tv. You can either buy a macrovision remover
or even better (What I did)- buy a switch box at circuit city. It will be $80
or so. Several devices (tv, vcr, sattelite, laser disc, etc... all plug into
the switch box and then the box goes to the tv. A cheaper alternative and the
setup is so much easier

Watched my copy of Dead Air that I taped yesterday. It was pretty bad. It
shook, digitized, fast framed, froze and was very fuzzy. This is so
frustrating. The last 3 min was a perfect pic. It has to be the cable
signal or Scifi's signal. Some of my other tapes have been perfect. I
messed the clock of during the time change and missed two shows :( Teach me
to be too busy to concentrate of the settings.

Since I have copies from Marg this doesn't make me crazy, but it's annoying.

But all in all it's wonderful to have the show back.

Well, I've had my current TV for 7 years now, and it's about the size of my
computer screen. $80 would be about the value of that TV or higher (taking
depreciation into account). It would be cheaper in the long run just to get a
bigger TV...plus, I'd be able to actually enjoy a wide-screen movie on it.
Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Hi Emily,
If you plan to get some type of vcr to record with the 80$ box is still the
way to go. I have several things plugged into it now and it is a real life
saver. I will soon get a VCD recorder to replace the vcr. The price of vcd
recorders has really plummeted because recordable dvd players have just hit
the market. They are a smidge expensive now ($1500 or so) but if you wait a
year or so you can get one for probably 20% of that price. If you do look
into a region free dvd player. They play dvds from anywhere in the world as
well as let you record onto a vhs if you want to. Anyway the reason for a
region free is that europe tends to get dvds alot earlier and with greater
variety. If you are a fan of FK like I am I am sure you like other shows
whith similar distribution problems so region free is definately the way to
go. Anyway ...LOL sorry for the ramble and enjoy your new DVD
