Subject: Long time, no see

First, I really must thank Bob for adding me to the Christmas mailing
list.  And all the people who sent cards.  It was wonderful seeing them;
and (apart from anything else) reminded me why I really *had* to get my
e-mail set up again.

My old computer died a few months ago; and, since then, I've been using
my mother's old laptop. (As my sister said, "Thank heavens for Mum's
old laptop!") Frustrating because it's a lot slower than a PC, plus the
fact that it lacked my--well, MY *everything*. Obviously.

When I tried to get e-mail set up, I found myself--as I dare say others
have!--dealing with an ISP that kept me on hold for the better part of
an hour, after which I found myself talking to someone whose English was
minimal, who couldn't understand what I wanted, and asked me to check my
computer for something that seemed irrelevant. I came back to find
myself put on hold ... forever, basically. Or until I finally hung up,
which I suspect may have been the point. Yes, I'm conflating more than
one attempt; but you get the idea.

Oddly, the lack of e-mail mostly didn't bother me, since I could p.m. my
sister about visiting for Christmas through our Dreamwidth accounts.
However, I definitely missed FORKNI-L! I did check the archives at
KnightWind's Nook; but, when I didn't see any recent digests, I just
figured there hadn't been any. I guess we all know how quiet the list
has sometimes been....

However, I've finally bit the bullet, steeled myself up to the ISP
ordeal, and ... instead found instructions on line, via google. Yes,
I'd tried that before; but I guess this time I hit the magic words.
Anyway, I've spent about three hours going through over1500 e-mails.
Among which I found some nuggets of FORKNI-L gold.

So again ... thank you to Bob, and everyone who sent cards.

And Happy New Year!
