Subject: WAR: Permission

Okay, I'm a little late (but this should surprise no one who's known me
since back in the day). With the weather the way it has been here in VA,
I've been cooped up in a hotel with crappy wifi for 2 days to be close to
work. That being said:

I, Becky Young, known as Bouncin' Cousin Becky with Knightie
tendencies, declare
my intention of playing the war 15 as a
Cousin and hereby grant permission to be written as a character and to be
attacked.

I think if you'd ever played before, you'd remember!

Anyway, you took the right first step by sending your permission slip. Now,
you need to decide if you want to play with one of the factions. If so,
then you need to contact the appropriate faction leader and let them know.
However, if you prefer, you are certainly free to play as an Independent
(i.e. without an affiliation.)

If you want to get a feel for how wars are run, I suggest you take a look at
Susan Garrett's War Tutorial
(http://www.foreverknight.org/ListGardener/WarNine/war9ldrs.htm#tutorial).
If there were more time, I'd suggest that you read one of the earlier wars;
but time's a bit short for that. The tutorial is much shorter, quite
clearly laid out, and very informative. I should add, though, that it was
written at the height of the fandom's popularity when a war would have far
more players. Nowadays, you get maybe one to six players per faction.

As for what you do once war starts...? Well, you write!

Actually the war starts tomorrow, Saturday the 25th, at 12 midnight
(as Friday becomes Saturday.) Eastern Standard Time. At least, we've
always gone by the time in the WM's zone. In the absence of a WM, I'm
going with Don and my time zone.

The world will not come to an end if anyone posts earlier by mistake.
Neither the Enforcers or, worse, McLisa will descend on you. This is
just a notice.

I'm sending this to all in case we have anyone who has his/her topics
set to nowar on Forkni-l and wants to read the war or even didn't know
and would like to play.

I've just sent an admin post to Fkfic-l with the War: topic. If you
want to read and/or play, and you don't get it, please let me know and
I'll set your topics so you get the war. I can also set them so you
don't

I've just been reminded that permssion slips, if the Subject doesn't
begin war:, go to all listers on Forkni-l instead of just the ones who
want to read and/or play in the war. Sorry. Please put War: at the
beginning of your permission slip subject lines.

If you've already sent one without it, no problem. I've got it and it
doesn't need to be resent.

Now here's the *big* question: what faction is the Caddy playing with? Is
it a Knightie, in honour of its owner? Is it a Caddy-Whacker, to celebrate
its own glory?

Also (a lesser, but significant question, since it's KnightWitch giving
permission), is this the *real* Caddy speaking? Or is the prop Caddy?
Speaking as a Die-Hard--we own the FK Prop Museum, we know the difference.

If the latter, then presumably she's participating in the war herself, and
driving it up to Toronto. Or is it coming on its own? ;-)

I'm afraid I don't remember who owns the now fan-less factions'
characters... like Skanke. Who are they hanging with? Last war, a
suggestion was made that we bribe Skanke with gyros, tzatziki sauce,
and souvlaki
to join the Mercs and I think it's funny enough to try...

Sent without the WAR: header as a last call to arms.

War 15 will start on Saturday, 25 January. Anyone who has been dithering,
now's the time to make up your minds. Permission slips (needed for all
players) should go to McLisa.

This war is being played to looser rules than in previous years; so, if you
want to arrive late, that's fine too. Faction membership is optional this
time round: you can always play as an independent if you prefer.

This war, you are free to play without a faction.

That means, though, that I'm not sure quite how to interpret some of the
permissions. While most people have specified their affiliation, some have
not--and I don't know whether that means that they plan to play as an
independent, or whether they just didn't put it in.

I've been making a page for Participants for the website. On it, I list
players by faction (or not). At the moment, I have Chanda, both Bonnies,
Aimee Nelson, and the Caddy listed as independents.

If I've got you in the wrong section, would you please let me know?
