Well, that's the question, isn't it?  Last time, there were certainly a few
factions that came with plans.  Others didn't, though:  they expected to
react to what the other factions were doing.  Self-starting isn't everyone's
gig.

If we had a less *arduous* premise than the last one, it might maybe serve
as a sort of "handy hint" for factions that are finding it hard to come up
with something.  Or hard to get together to discuss it:  communications can
be slow as molasses sometimes.  (All it takes, you know, is for the faction
leader to have an internet outage.)

Now, McLisa responded to my reminder that there were two *unused* premises
from the last war.  She said:

Well first off, *you* may not have the old premises; but the people who
submitted them both remember what they suggested.  (I'm one of them.)  And,
of course, there may be other people with new ideas.

Couldn't *all* potential premises be posted for people to see and vote on?
Of course, that would mean that everyone would know in advance.  The premise
would not be a secret, as it has been in the past.  But it's clear that, if
we're to have another war, it will have to be played by somewhat new rules
anyway.

Also, if the premise was picked by *vote*, you wouldn't have that duty.

Of course, one of the options to vote on would have to be not having a
premise at all.  After all, Bonnie and you both like that idea; and there
are probably others who agree.

Another idea would be to have a self-appointed committee decide on
which premise(s) they favored.Such self-appointed committee could be
made up of premise submitters and previous warmistresses for example.

Personally, since I've never played in a premise-less war, that
option doesn't appeal to me so much. However I DO remember one war
whose premise was so unappealing that I (a faction leader) just
ignored it completely.

I'm with keep it extremely simple. Just set up a premise, for example,
"Let's all go to Toronto and have one great party to celebrate the
anniversary." The finer detail could revolve around renting, say, Casa Loma
for a night. Chaos could ensue---mishaps with the catering, accidental
damage to the venerable property that must be fixed, sub-parties in those
palatial stables (connected by a tunnel to the main house, just imagine the
possibilities), goings-on on the roof (accessed through the attic and yes,
open to the public). Etc. There's lots of scope for goofiness there, and
people could just play as individuals and interact as a faction member with
other individuals.

Add our FK characters walking in and out of the picture, causing trouble,
and you could have fun with it.

Plus, this has the added feature of not having to solve a mystery of any
sort. Just leave the venue in the shape we found it.

I thought of Casa Loma because it's got an extensive website that people
can look at to understand the possibilities of story lines there. I once
toured it so I remember what it looks like in person. (A side note, it was
frequently a location used in lots of syndicated shows---I remember Nikita
used it as some kind of Eastern European prison, and another time Nikita
and Michael had to creep through that tunnel that connects the house to the
stables).

I like this, and hope it's what we coose. Casa Loma even has a secret
passage,.which the builder used to get from his study to sanctuary
upstairs when unwanted visitors arrived. : )

Plus, LaCroix could certainly do any hypnotizing necessary to keep us
from being taken away by the Toronto police (there's probably a limit
on Nick's influence <g>).  The Raven could cater the refreshments.

Fine by me, as long as the regular Fkfic-l rules are remembered and no
flames start on either list. Don and I would both consider flames a
reason to stop the war. I'm sure we'd all agree on that.  .

Problem: If the premise chosen somehow got the PSU listserv into legal
trouble (I don't see how, but I have to consider all angles), Don and
I as listowners would still be responsible for the content. Let's see
what Don says. Don? Personally I'm willing to risk it, but I think Don
and I had better keep the right to veto a premise if we think it's
likely to cause trouble. In that remote event, I'd be open to
negotiating for any necessary changes.

Sure.

I have a good deal of experience with no-premise on-list parties on
the old Vampyres@guvm, so I'd be happy to explain how that works, if
anyone would like to hear about it.
