Subject: Knighties?
This list has been awfully quiet lately, barring McLisa's Thanksgiving
message on Monday. In fact, a month ago (literally, i.e. on the 16th of
September), I asked people if they could help me fill out the wiki article
on the Knighties. Yes, it may seem odd, but there are much smaller factions
for which I have a lot more information!
In lieu of anyone contacting me, on or off list, I've finally got round to
adding a few paragraphs of my own devising. This is what I've added about
the Knighties at war:

Aside from the main story arc of the War, Knightie faction posts
essentially describe a reunion not unlike that of a group of sorority
sisters, and takes the form of a rather overcrowded, two-week-long
sleepover. While some participants have been in many previous Wars, others
are relative newcomers; yet all have much in common, and strangers quickly
become friends.
Participating Knighties stay at Nick's loft, crashing on the floor
of the living room and cooking for themselves in his kitchen. They are
aware of the fact that they are descending on their host without warning
(though presumably they have a tacit, standing invitation), and that their
numbers can be more than a little overwhelming. Nevertheless, their posts
make it clear that Nick is willing to have them stay, and enjoys meeting his
fans. Indeed, some Knighties make sure to write themselves a one-on-one war
post in which they talk to Nick on their own. (However, it should be noted
that these encounters are chaste, though the writer makes it clear that she
has a crush on Nick, of which he is usually aware). Nick is always gentle
with the feelings of his fans.
In many Wars, part of the Knighties' communal faction activities
involve shopping using credit cards supplied by Nick, drawing on his vast
fortune.

Now, I'm sure there are things that could be added (or altered!) to this
description; but, more important, this is only an attempt to describe the
Knighties' actual *activities* in a War.
There's also the question of the *appeal* of the faction. What sort of
people are attracted to the playing with the Knighties? Or, for that
matter, joining their list between wars. Obviously, these are fans of Nick.
But so are we all, in our own ways, or we wouldn't watch FK at all. Why
does someone pick the Knighties, as opposed to joining one of the other
factions?
I guess what I'm asking is, if you were one of those BAU-type "profilers",
what would you say is the profile of a Knightie?

I think you did fairly well with the paragraphs on how the Knighties
"do" a War. For as long as I've been an active participant (1996) the
Knighties have been a pretty reactive faction. We don't tend to
initiate attacks on other factions, but we have to react to the
attacks on us. And a lot of factions seem to like to prank the
Knighties. :-) In the last couple of Wars, we've tried to be a little
more proactive, but it often backfires.

Of course, there's the fact that Nick is the protagonist in the story
(and not at all bad looking <g>). But I'm drawn to the his quest for
mortality, for his feeling that he made a huge mistake in his past
that he wants to rectify. Of course, I think a lot of us relate to
hating something about ourselves, to finding something that we wish
we could change, but seems impossible. For me, it's my weight. I hate
that I'm "fluffy" and while I've tried, I've never been permanently
successful in getting and keeping the weight off. I have trouble
accepting myself as I am, because I hate that aspect of me. Nick
hates being a vampire, he wants out of a nearly impossible situation.
When he has had brief successes ("The Fix"), he always reverts back.
I think a lot of people can relate that to something in their own lives.
Then, of course, we have a lovely loft, an open invitation to visit,
and an unlimited platinum credit card for our shopping needs. :-)
(However, we're not *huge* shoppers. If there's a party, we may need
to get dresses or costumes. Of course, we need supplies and food,
etc. It's just nice to not have to worry about the money.) Oh, and
there's the Caddy. We occasionally get to drive the Caddy. Who
wouldn't want to do that?
