I always just assumed that Schanke was between partners.

One of the things I've always felt was one of the
advantages of "Dark Knight" is that it was essentialy
a re-write of "Nick Knight". That is, Perriott had the
chance to re-write the script, make changes here,
improve a few things there, etc.

This made the episode seem like it was from the
middle or towards the end of the first season when
the writers have got some experience under there
wings and can approach writing a story with much
more confidence. Perriott got FK off to and excellent
start right off the bat.
It makes the whole thing feel like it was in the middle
of things. Yes, it's the start of Nick and Schanke working
together, but you really get the feeling that they've
both been on the force for a while -- it's not just something
we have to believe because we are told that. We can
see and feel it. That's good acting and good writing.

Other changes that helped was changing most of
the cast. Schanke was good, but some of the others
-- oh, boy.

Does anyone remember when the Seventh Kickstart the Knight auction was held?

I have a copy of the webpage with photos of the donated items for that
auction, and intend to put it in the Website Archive. However, I would like
to be able to date it. (It has to be 2000 or later, because there's a
poster of NB in "Scrooge" from Christmas 2000.)

If it would help to identify the auction for you, the preamble says, "This
time round we have added something extra: items from other fandoms as
well!" This suggests that it was the first time non-FK items were included.

Among the props for sale were the cross from "Sons of Belial" and a page
from the Abarat from "1966".

Thanks,
Greer

I liked the changing of a male doctor to Natalie. It was a whole new
dynamic for the show.

    Yes.
I didn't have a problem with the character/actor who played Jerry, but
shifting the coroner to Natalie did make for a nice "tug-of-war" for Nick
between Natalie and Janette. Between his human and vampiric life. His
life as he was/is and the future he wants.
I liked the actors for Janette, LaCroix in the original TV movie, but
I think Nigel's acting style is a better fit for what LaCroix became
as a character...and Deb simply IS Janette to me.

Just finished watching Nick Knight and have Dark Knight Part 1 on. I was
struck at how young the actors were back then. Rick Springfield sounds
like a baby. LOL Your right that Janette could not hold a candle Deb's
portrayal. She had that exotic look that made her more than human, Like
Angelique in Dark Shadows. No one can replace either one.

I agree Nigel is much better as LaCroix. It's funny the other LaCroix was
on one of my soaps for years. The going round and round made me laugh. I was
also very happy that Ger's Nick didn't have a face that warped when in
Vampire mode.

The actors who play Jeannie are also familiar. The Older woman played in
many shows and movies in her time and the younger one later appeared on
Star Trek Deep Space NIne.

Dark Knight shows some of Nick's history which makes it better. It's a
tighter well planned show.
I haven't watched these in years. It's wonderful to see them again.

I really liked Stonetree very much. I think he knew but he wanted Sckanke
off the trail of Nick as a vampire.
I think I like the first Alyce better. I think the black Cadie in the first
movie was kewl, any reason why they changed it to green, was it just
availability? Cadie's are easy to paint, but then there's is that destroying the
originality.

I was always surprised that LaCroix drank the animal blood. I thought he
thought it was the worst. He is much scarier.

Well Nick should have changed his shirt he looks like the other Nick.. LOL
I did enjoy the exchange with the old lady in the Elevator with the
first Nick.

Polka music is classic LOL. I love it when Nick exists the car and says
SCKANKE!!! Hysterical. I Like that he and Nick kind of bond at that moment.

Okay now I think we see a glimpse of the beautiful carved mantle, How does
it survive the fire?

So what are your theories as to why LaCroix survives this. It was a
stake, it was fire. I know he's ancient but still...

Yes. In NK, the only M-F relationship is with the museum curator
and she gets killed off. From then on, the show would have devolved
into the "neck of the week" category.

As Tim points out, changing the coroner from M to F allows for a lot
more action and interaction, and not only for Nick and J and for
Nick and Nat, but for so interesting interactions between J and Nat.

A lot more possibilities -- including a "neck of the week" or two.

:-)

In the movie Misery, The character played by Kathy Bates makes
the author character write a "new" novel which brings the character
"Misery" back to life. She insists, however, that it be in a realistic
way, not the way that the cliff-hanger serials of the 30's and 40's
used to have the hero(ine) pop back up miraculously.

There are a lot of various convoluted ways that LaCroix could
have been brought back to life, but I think it was very smart of
the writers to just ignore it: he's back, deal with it! That way,
they didn't have to worry about it. How he came back is left
up to our imaginations (and possible future fan-fic).
