another "list oldie" checking in here. I'd love to do a re-watch and
discussion. I joined the list fairly early, but joined in on the discussions
in the second season. I knew FK was on in the first season as "Crimetime
after Primetime" but could never catch it until the second season came on.
Mid-June would be a good time to start as school is out and I'd have some time.

Ok let me say Im in CA. Have a 5-7pm second job, home most Fridays but
occasionally have family outings.

Very ill sister things are up in the air now, will be off for the summer
from day job, so that will give me more time to watch the show.

Will try to answer everyone but I see my previous email (responding to
Libby, Laura & Jeannie) hasn't posted yet. Which is part of the reason
why I'm really not in a position to "host" this: more often than not,
there's a huge delay in between I send an email and it is delivered
and well over 50% of the time, they never reach the list altogether.
By the time I venture a duplicate, it's been a week.

To KnightWitch: You actually OWN one of the show's real caddies??
That's ...WOW! No words... *Meltdown* Would love to hear how you
acquired it. If it's old news to the list feel free to email me
directly though I'm sure there must be other "newbies" who would like
to know as well, lucky lady!

To Laura: Friday nights has to be the worst time for me out of the
entire week! I don't think I can really join you there, sorry. But if
the majority wants that, then so be it. I'm not sure how a chat works
if you're on moderation either, would love to participate but because
of the aforementioned, not sure I'll be able to. How would the chat
work? (Sorry I got lost at "the #lanekent IRC channel") Did you mean
watch the episode together the prior hour and then discuss it? Sounds
very much like 1992, not sure everyone can participate that way but
I'd love to if the time/day is convenient.

To Greer: Good to have you on board!! Didn't know you did this so
recently. Might explain why most users haven't responded here. "Like
it's 1992" was just me providing an interesting title for the email.
Of course, it will never be like 1992, for the reasons you mentioned.
I meant discuss it with the same love for the show, even if the zeal
has dwindled down because it's never as good as the first time (I
think I'm quoting Sade here). So since you guys have done this, is
there some do's and don't's? Or, as long as we follow list rules, does
anything go? For example I'm not inclined to talk about plot holes but
I don't mind reading about that, I just don't think I can be good with
that. I'm more a subjective type. I'd love talking about props and
other detailed stuff... then again I might be wrong: someone might
bring up a plot hole and I might have something to say, particularly
if I've missed it and it's new to me. So let us know if there's
anything that's off limits.

So far as which episode to start with, I'd love it if it were the
beginning, yes. If no one objects, let's do that, but if someone
objects and prefers another... OH! Knight Witch: you can't join us
till June. Hmm... I hate to leave anyone out at the same time I'm
aching to do this now and not wait a month but I don't want to be
unfair. Are you cool with reading our posts and maybe joining from
memory? Or does everyone think we should start with random episodes
until KW can join us?? What's more fair to everyone?

Thanks and hope I haven't missed anyone who had a question. I hope my
previous reply posts and if it does not and I see this one, then I
will resend.

Otto, it doesn't have to be Friday. And it wouldn't be moderated because I
wouldn't be paying for it to be a permanent channel. I can talk you
through IRC and what network, and what channel and all that if people like
the idea. They way they work it is everyone meets at a prearranged
time--10 pm EST Friday night and at the same time, start the episode. And

Subject: Like it's 1992... Picking the date & episodes

Hi Libby, Laura, Jeannie & group,

Sorry for trimming what I wrote in my original "Like it's 1992"
message but here's a direct cut and paste: "We could make the week's
episode discussion say starting on Saturdays that way everyone can
watch whenever they can fit it in their schedule (Sun-Fri at leisure)
and then join the discussion on Sats." So, yes, when I said
"Saturday" that's the day to discuss the episode, absolutely. Would
that work for you Laura? You can discuss first thing in the am or
last at night or any time in between and everyone can join in the
discussion at any point. I picked Saturday being the weekend for most
people but again, general consensus here, whatever works for the
majority, I'm happy to follow.

Jeannie, I too would love to start from E01, S01 and it looks like
Libby would prefer that as well. If that works for Laura too, and
anyone else who reads this is motivated enough to join in the fun,
please speak up as everyone is welcome and everyone's voice will be
counted. If others prefer to call out episodes to watch, as I said,
I'm open to that too.

If Saturday May 25th is not too much rushing it, then we have one
week and I'd say start watching between now and then so we can
discuss some time on Saturday. This is an example. I'm not an expert
at leading anything or anyone so I hope no one takes these
suggestions as more than open discussion but we do have to decide at
some point and sometimes taking the plunge right away works.
Sometimes not. And if someone is better suited for hosting and would
like to wear that hat, I have no problem with that as well. I just
had the idea to suggest the common re-watch to the group but if
someone wants hosting duties speak now or forever... Knight! ;-) (I
guess what I'm saying is I have no idea how to lead a session/group
discussion but I could wing it if need be, all I can think of is to
remind the list to watch which episode and to remember to discuss the
following Sat...or whichever is the day we end up deciding on).

I hope what I've written is clear enough. I do know tone can't be
read (and this is where things can often get a bit sketchy) but I've
reread myself and I don't see anything questionable. If there's any
confusion, please re-read at least once, please assume the best of
good intentions and if still unclear, then please do ask.

Thank you everyone!
Otto

It does sounds wonderful, MST2000 style!! I'm sorry but I'm lost at
the lingo: channel? what does this IRC mean? Are you saying it's
paying? Or free if it's temporary? Is it like a Meebo chatroom?

Chiming in here--the UF has had a long-standing (but sadly recently pretty
quiet) chat on Friday evenings on the Undernet, channel #unnamedfaction. We
could certainly use that channel, it's seen precious little traffic in the
last month or so. The time is pretty flexible---I'm usually in the chat room
by 9 pm CDT.

If a live chat isn't feasible, there's no reason it can't be on the main list.
That way it really would be like 1992 (or at least like 1994, which is when I
discovered FORKNI-L). Ah, the good old days when I could expect 150 messages a
day...

Have no idea what meebo is. :) IRC is a chat program that's been around
*forever*. As in, it was around in in the 90s. Free download, or you
can pay a small fee for a license that never expires. I bought it at least
ten years ago and thus get my program updated for free every time they
release a new version. (They're on seven now, I believe... and I bought it
when they were on three) Anybody can open a channel or chatroom, but I
believe that it make it permanent and moderated for real, there's some sort
of fee to pay, but having never done it, I'm not sure. It's actually a
fairly easy program to use, though you *do* have to know where you're
going! (And that should have been Saturday night. :) It was Chip off the
Old Clark tonight... one of my favorites. ;) Had me complaining about the
completely put on Southern accent!)

I agree with the folks who would prefer to keep this on the main list. I work
2nd shift and can keep track of the List while I work, but can't chat in the
evenings. I also agree with those who would like to do this after graduations,
school lets out, and US Memorial Day weekend is over. As for the latter, it's
going to be pretty difficult to do something like this in the middle of
MediaWest Con, or to quote the late Susan Garrett upon being introduced to FK:
"Not another fandom!"

everybody?
How's Saturdays? Would starting on May 25th work for everyone?
