Subject: Ellen and her other personalities

When I was working on the icon for the Triple Threat faction, I started
thinking (not for the first time) about the ending of "Hearts of Darkness".
After Jacqueline kills Marnecki, Ellen's personality emerges. She looks at
the crime scene, asks Nick, "Did I do that?", and then hurls herself off the
building to her death--as she supposes, for, of course, when we see her body
in the storage room at the morgue, one of the toes starts to twitch.

Well, I have no problem with the body healing: such a fall would hardly
kill a vampire, after all.

So, if the body survives, did Ellen commit suicide?

I tend to think that because the Ellen persona *believed* she was falling to
her death, she (or that set of brain patterns) actually does disappear, i.e.
die, even though the body heals itself. However, I also think that
Jacqueline would survive. That is, even though the Jacqueline persona knows
of the fall (for she seems to be aware of all that happens to Ellen and
Monica), she obviously knows about the vampire healing ability; so she will
assume that their body will survive the fall, and therefore *won't* be
killed.

But what about Monica? That's what I was wondering: would the Monica
persona survive or not?
