Subject: FK websites on FortuneCity
I don't know if anyone on list has tried in the last week or so to access an
FK website hosted on FortuneCity. If you have, you will have discovered
that it isn't there any more. The owners of FortuneCity decided to stop
offering free sites as of April 30th.
Mercifully, I discovered this on May 1st when I tried to access the
"Affiliations FAQ" on Mr. Happy's. I quickly checked to see if Google had
kept its cached pages, which it had; and then I spent several frantic days
saving everything I could. I wish I'd known before it happened; but I know
that I was lucky to find out so quickly. Although most of the cached pages
are still there now, not all are; as well, I now can't access any of the
graphics, the way I could in the first few days.
At a rough guess, I think I have about 80% of the FK material that was on
FortuneCity--at least as far as webpages and graphics are concerned, since
Google doesn't cache sound files. Also, NAT says she has found her back-up
files for the original Episode Archives. (This is the *old* screen capture
archive from 2000, *not* the new KnightWatchman site.)
There is work to be done on these pages. Apart from anything else, I have
to strip out the code added by FortuneCity to display their ad banners, and
the code added by Google as they cached the pages. As I fix the websites
up, they will go into the Forever Knight Website Archive.

Subject: CotK faction site
The first FortuneCity site I've started editing is the CotK faction site. I
actually collected this a couple of years ago. Nevertheless, I find that
there are things missing. So...can any members of the CotK (or anyone else,
for that matter) help me out?
1. I have the text of the "sounds.html" page, but no sound files. (If I
can't get them, I'll deadlink the page.)
2. I do not have the Photos section--or more accurately, none of the photos
it contained. From their names, most of these were clearly screen captures.
(If I can't get them, I'll deadlink the pages.)
3. I am missing one of the war posts because there was a typo on the link.
The missing file is "meander01.html". The title of the story is "Meandering
to a Different Drummer (1/2)".
Be reassured: I have the CotK banners and the Comfy Cottage floorplans.
