I'm sorry I've been a little behind on getting my rally on for the Mercs (my
best friend's dad was really sick and passed away last week, so things have
been crazy).

For me, a short War might be best, because the next few months are going to
be insane anyway. But I do have to have a War as the official Grand High
Poobah of the Mercs. :)

Sadly, I just don't see how I'd have the time to participate this go around :-(

Finally, finally...I had the sense to use Google to find out whether the
Knights de Soir and Twilight Knighties were the same. They are: it says so
right in the description of their Yahoo!Group (and I should have had the
sense to do this earlier, shouldn't I?)

So I've just posted the icons for the Dark Knighties and the Twilight/De
Soirs. In making them, I modified some of the motifs that I used in the
Knighties icon, so that the three make a set.

You can find them here: http://greerwatson.livejournal.com/8059.html.

I certainly plan to take part--as a Die-Hard, I should think, since that's
the faction I was with last time.

In picking a time, we need to consider that Amy R. is running FK Fic Fest
again this year (http://fkficfest.livejournal.com/). She's planning to have
sign-ups in April. People who participate will be writing stories to post
towards the end of July. So maybe we should consider having the war either
in May/June or else in August.

As for the length of the war, people usually take part as they can, don't
they? And let their characters be used by other writers in their faction
when they're not around in person? I've only been around to read War 12 and
participate in War 13 but:
        - both times it took a couple of days for things to really get going
        - both times there were at least three factions with big things
planned (party, barfight, etc.) that everyone took part in: these take a
while to plan (boy, do they!) if they're to be pulled off; and you can't
very well have more than one of them going on at a time
        - tying up all the loose ends took a couple of days at the end

So I vote for the usual two weeks--starting on a Saturday, with final
wrap-up posts allowed on the last Sunday.

I agree. People's erratic schedules are the precise reason for a
longer War. That gives people who can participate for the whole thing
a nice canvas to plot shenanigans on, and people who can't plenty of
time to drop in as they have availability.

I second this idea.

Longer might be better for me. I'll participate as a Merc again, but as
I'm now taking care of *two* nieces, my writing time has contracted again.
Gracie will be four in May, and baby sister Nikki will be one. (All three
of my nieces and my nephew all have May birthdays. My sister and
sister-in-law are on notice that they're not allowed to have more May
babies!) Nikki is in the getting-into-everything stage because she's
figured out how to walk, so any writing I do these days is usually during
naptime because I'm otherwise pulling her out of places she's not supposed
to be in, and trying to teach Gracie to read at the same time. It's busy
around here!

I also vote for a longer War. It takes an enormous amount of
plotting & coordinating things behind the scenes, plus writing. It's
more worthwhile for the longer scenario.

As you may have guessed from this, I will be participating. :)
