Doesn't that screw up the history of the > fandom? Forever Knight fandom certainly does have its history, you're right. Once upon a time there were no Cousins. Once upon a time, the faction for Natalie was not called the NatPack. Once upon a time, people were arguing over what to call the faction for Nick. A few years later, they were proposing new factions for the Season Three characters, and discussing names for them. Nowadays, these may all seem as though they've been around forever; but--as you know, for you go back that far in the fandom--they all had to start some time. History is ever evolving--from the past, through the present, into the future. The addition of a faction for Marian (whatever we collectively decide to call it) in no way invalidates anything that has gone before. You can read at least some of the FORKNI-L archives on Knightwind's Nook: the history of the fandom is right there on line; and what happens on the list today doesn't "screw up" any of those archived digests. The Wars of the past can still be read; and, if most of the loops, lists, and groups are pretty inactive, you can still look at many of the websites they created and read the stories the members wrote. For that matter, the icons that I'm making don't invalidate the symbols on the faction pins that were made for Dead of Winter Con in 1995, nor the symbols that factions have created for themselves since. There is no invalidation, no loss, no subtraction--and no staying the same, either. A living fandom is always adding. All factions have to start somewhere; and, just because the fandom has not officially created a new faction in years doesn't mean they're constrained never to do so ever again. Why do it? People are, I think, mildly enjoying themselves. Isn't that the point?
