From what I remember circa 1994-1998 when I was active is that A lot of faction size was a direct result of the number of able-bodied writers that faction could field and the inclusiveness of a group. During wartime, a lot of folks who weren't eager to write would still join a faction so that they could be in on planning and would serve as the cast of characters that the writers of the war posts used in the posts. I recall when I first joined FK fandom, certain factions (that are now reabsorbed) were more exclusive than others. As the founding members of those exclusive factions lost interest in their online pursuits, the old factions had no new blood to fill the void that they created. This is probably why the newer factions have absorbed older ones. They now have a wiki article, http://foreverknight.wikia.com/wiki/Pit_of_Condemned_Bimbos (and I *think* I worked in everything!) Is that Leah Rainey who founded the faction, by the way? Or have I got that wrong? What was *extra*-great was the inclusion of the URL for the website. I promptly had a look on the Wayback Machine. Oh, there isn't much there. (I get the impression there never was.) The graphics are all missing, though the guestbook survives. However, I was able to do a wiki article on the faction site as well: http://foreverknight.wikia.com/wiki/The_Forever_Knight_Pit_Of_Condemned_Bimbos_Survivalists_Faction_Page Now.... Has anyone spotted anything else I've missed? Have I goofed anywhere? (We strive to include *everything*, you know.) The activity of a faction in terms of War posts and it's members' activities in the War universe was directly related to the number of active writers in the faction and the ability of that faction's writers to collaborate with writers from other factions. When there was little interfaction interaction, there were more solitary threads that may not have seemed part of the entire War scenario. Some of the faction dissipation/disappearance is related to people GAFIAting -- i.e., Real Life or other interests taking precedence over FK fandom. (One example I seem to recall is MacHeather changing career or job and moving to a different city about a year or so after her marriage.) Another issue is that the Warmistress for War 11 specified that only the original eight factions would be allowed to participate, so a lot of the splintered factions had to collapse back for the purpose of the war (it is one reason I participated in that War as a Die-Hard rather than a Celtic Glow Worm, and why my -- and the Vampbear's -- War 11 posts are not archived to the Fiendish Glow site). I don't remember it being a joke faction so much as an other-sort-of-affinity faction. We were the ones who, while enjoying the idea of being snacked on by Nick, wouldn't have wanted to died from the experience (or become permanent members of the night shift). We were, at least in theory, preparing ourselves to survive the experience of becoming a "Neck of the Week". (Hmm. There's no reference to "Neck of the Week" on the wiki. How can we *not* have a "Neck of the Week" reference on there?????) Then again, fourteen years can alter one's perception of past reality. >Is that Leah Rainey who founded the faction, by the way? Along with semantic drift, abbreviations and diminutives should be discussed. For example, nobody ever talks about the "Nick and Nat Packers" any more, it's "NNP". Similarly, "Perkulators" are now "Perks", and we write "LC" instead of "Lacroix". Brenda F.
