Speaking of Czar Nicholas... check out the forkni-l.com page. The actor who
portrayed Czar Nicholas is now appearing in an open-end run of Rock of Ages
in Toronto.

> element. But it seems to me that we actually
have the precursor of this genre in Forever Knight with the flashbacks of
 LaCroix almost
bringing Hitler over as a vampire. I find myself contemplating how this
 genre would be worked
into Forever Knight if it were being produced today.
There was also episode where Vachon had his name on Mississauga peace treaty on
787 and Rasputin was a vampire in Imperial Russia in 1916.
am thinking that this kinds of flashbacks are quite difficult because they can
e politically sensitive. For example for me Czar Nikolai II has always been an
nemy of Finland, so I don't share the rather empathic picture of Nikolai II in
hat episode. So one must always be a little careful what kind of connections to
eal history and real people one makes in flashbacks. But it is nice to think
hat FK vampires has seen many historical events and have tried to live more or
ess successfully undetected during all these centuries. One of my favorite
antasy is that Nicholas or LaCroix has actually met Jane Austin and that her
ather sudden death in her 40's were because somebody actually brought her over.

There is an entire message that must have been missed. This is what I
received but it doesn't refer to anything that came to me previously. Can
someone fill me in, please? Perhaps forward the post from the 14th? It
didn't go into my Spam folder and it's not elsewhere.

I got this.
Cindy

Most people have minds like concrete: mixed up or permanently set.

Hell" as a situation 4. Was there a reason?"

I'm glad you brought up "A More Permanent Hell". I agree, definitely a #4,
where the subject pretends to be whammied. This is shown by what happens
when they get back to Nat's apartment - she quickly turns the tables on
Spark and fights back. I wonder, though, why she waited so long. I suppose
Nat was playing along while she figured out a Plan B, and felt that she
would have some kind of advantage in her own apartment, where she was at
least familiar with the layout and resources and might be able to improvise
a weapon.

" the whammy likelihood is higher the more senior the vampire. (Natalie
again, being whammied by Lacroix in "Be My Valentine")."

My own gut feeling is that Lacroix plays up his seniority, when his real
advantage isn't his age but his centuries of practice. (Remember his how he
"forgot" to teach Nick something else? Dang, what was that? It was in Season
1.) He could probably teach Nick and Janette how to do what he does, but
where's the fun in that?

Last night, I watched "Night in Question", and it seems to me that Lacroix's
whammy of the ER doc is almost a master class in how to do it. Since a lot
is at stake, Lacroix is taking no chances. I think he assumes the ER doc
will be a resister just to be on the safe side. He's dressed as a doctor
when he approaches the ER doc, for instant credibility. He starts by
pointing out to her that X-rays can be unreliable in certain cases. (I'm no
doctor, but I'm sure no diagnostic tools, even X-rays, are 100% reliable.)
While he talks to the ER doc, he removes the X-rays of Nick's shattered head
from the light panel, and pins up X-rays of an intact skull. This would give
her a visual to match what Lacroix is telling her about Nick's remarkable
escape. Then Lacroix provides her with a story to explain why he seemed to
be much more seriously injured. That way, she doesn't have to figure out a
story for herself, which could lead to problems. If he was all-powerful,
then he would just tell her to let Nick leave the hospital. But he doesn't.
He goes to a lot of trouble to persuade her in a more subtle and
sophisticated fashion, and Lacroix isn't the type to put himself out for no
reason.

Your humble & obedient servant,
Angela Gottfred

PS Sorry for the delay - tried to post this yesterday and it didn't go
through.
