My first introduction to FK was when Nigel Bennett was set to make an
appearance at Mad Media Con in Madison Wisconsin. Some friends loaned me their
very blurry badly dubbed copies of first season. I loved the show and went
thru the tapes super fast. The first night of the convention after opening
ceremonies Nigel was hanging out in the hotel bar. My friends and I made
complete dorks of ourselves wandering back and forth in front of the door to
the bar trying to decide if it was him or not. On the third pass he turned
towards the door and saluted us with his bottle of beer. He was a very funny
and generous GoH. It was at Mad Media Con that they auctioned off a kiss from
Nigel in the charity auction that ended up being won by a guy. A few years
later when he appeared at Toronto Trek he made a joke about it in his speech.
When I spoke to him one on one later I told him that I was from Madison and he
told me I should have bought his kiss at the auction. Kathryn Long was at that
TT also, she was so cute and so young. She signed her autographs with little
hearts.

While Mad Media Con was not technically an FK convention, I will always think
of it as such because it was that convention that introduced me to FK.

Actually, I haven't discussed this w. Don, but I wouldn't mind another war.
PLEASE NOTE: we have a topic, war:. If you want to talk about this online,
please preface your subject line with war:. The colon is vital -- that's what
tells the listserv that the word is a topic. Otherwise everyone will get the
post and those who aren't interested may be unhappy.

Don, did we set war: so everyone gets it? If not, let me know on list, please,
so we can make the needed changes.

McLisa, who must have been out in the sun too long even if it was just to take
the dog around the block:)

Subject: Old times

This list not only brought me a lot of dear friends, some of whom I've still
never met in person, but know better than most of my face-to-face friends.
Listowning here and on the old Vampyres@guvm changed me from a shy, retiring
person (stop rolling on the floor, it's true!) to my present day personality.
I realize it's debatable whether that was a good thing. <eg>

I've enjoyed the wars, and only dropped out of the last one because I was so
occupied w. real life. Now that I'm retired, I'd love to do another one, along
the old lines where we didn't have to be in a faction to play and attacks were
random and didn't require permission. (We'd still have to have written
permission before hand for anyone who wanted to play, including being attacked.
PSU almost got sued over something on fkfic-l at one point, although not over
anything directly connected w. FK.)

After a long gap owing to real life problems, FK brought me back to writing,
when it looked like we wouldn't have a 2nd season. I wrote "Coming Across" as
an attempt to land the series.

I have quite a bit of memorabilia, of course, and some hardcopy photos. Greer,
if you'd like to get in touch with me, I'll be happy to talk about sending them
for scanning and inclusion.

CONs -- We had Dead of Winter in Worcester, Mass. one January after the Star
Trek Con which Nigel was supposed to attend was cancelled. The mundanes at the
hotel were seriously freaked, but we all had lots of fun. Nigel was, I think,
the sole guest and loads of run.

I got to meet Ger twice, once at a con and once at a weekend organized by his
fanclub, Nigel several times, Deb twice, and John Kapelos once. We could never
persuade Catherine Disher to come to a con, not even Ger. As many of you know,
she'd had a very bad experience with fans on another show, and thereafter
refused to meet any face to face.

As for Bridging, I still have the self-portrait of Nick which I bought there
and which had been on the set as a decoration. Is the woman who was the other
serious bidder still here, or does anyone know how to contact her? If only I
had gotten tenure and therefore had money, I'd have come to LCAs too,

Thank you, all of you, for making this fandom so very special!

Lisa -

I'm game for another War. Before the recent discussion I didn't realize how
long it's been.

Both FORKNI-L and FKFIC-L are set so you have to opt in to get the WAR: posts.
If anyone needs help to set the topics just drop me a line.
