The most glaring error of all, IMHO, being the 'transfer' of Detective
Nicholas deBrabant Knight from Chicago, IL, USA, to Toronto, *Canada*. No
one transfers from one country to another, much less from one police
department to another internationally, not at that level. AFKPH, but an
enormous one, if you ask me. (Not that anyone did, of course. just one that
bugs me every time it's mentioned.)

Was it ever explicitly stated that he transferred? I had always
figured he just relocated and got the new job there using the Chicago
job as past experience, as opposed to literally transferring from one
to the other.

There was a gap of some sort in his job history because we also
know that when he sat up on Natalie's gurney, that he was not a
police officer at that time. I think the "transfer" was a short-hand
way of saying he had been working as a policeman in Chicago
and he got a similar job in Toronto.

There is also a question of his nationality. Would Toronto actually
hire a non-Canadian for such a position? Although, even 'born'
in Chicago, he could have Canadian citizenship.

One of the terrific things about this fandom is that despite (or
maybe because of) the errors in continuity, there have been
some wonderfully creative explanations for the errors, mistakes,
and/or improbable occurrences ("Battle of Hastings", anyone?)

I assume that Nick had a birth certificate (Thank you Merlin or
Aristotle), but if so, who were listed as his parents?

Recently my son and I were discussing LaCroix and Nick's relationship and I
have been having him watch some of LaCroix's greatest lines.

However, I seem to be missing one. It's where Nick sees LaCroix and asks
what he is doing there.

LaCroix answers something to the effect of "making your life miserable as
usual."

Which episode is this from? I tried looking it up with the quote finder
and even went into the archives but can't find it.

Thanks.

I post to FKFIC when I actually write something. I also post it to
fanfiction.net for you can see the whole story in chapters.

Personally, I've looked around at other groups and would like to write for
them. The more the merrier, I say. But the original is still the best. It
was the first I discovered after fanfiction.net.

PS, for those of you wondering about my current stories, I have had severe
personal problems and will update soon--I promise.

Also, for those who want to know what Toronto looks like but haven't been,
download GoogleEarth. It's cool.

Thanks

I got to visit Toronto a number of years ago when Geraint was doing My
Fair Lady in Stratford. It's wonderful and I enjoyed my tour very much. The
city was so beautiful at night. I will look at Google Earth though thanks
for the suggestion.

No wonder Ger told a fan club gathering I attended that "the Dish doesn't say
lines she thinks aren't right." :)

This is what I always thought.

While the show was on the air, we had a lister who was interning at the police
museum in Toronto. You _do_ have to be a Canadian citizen to be a police
officer there. I don't know specifically about Chicago, but would think so. I
always presumed that Nick claimed to be a dual citizen.

That's always been half the fun. We even had a fanfic challenge about Hastins.
My favorite was one in which The Battle of Hastings turned out to be a pub where
Nick and Aristotle had been involved in a bar room brawl.

It's the one where Nick is on or applying to the Chicago police. I don't
remember the title. The Old Gray Mare's memory ain't what it used to be. :)

My favorite Nick and LaCroix relationship is one that didn't go through. When
they were casting a new captain, 3rd season, I think, Nigel said he suggested
they just have LC as the new captain. They'd only have to pay the one salary
since he was already a regular, and just think what possibilities. <g>

This cries for Fan Fic! Was there ever a story done on that premise? I
can't remember one but then I've only been here since 2003.

That was in my fanfic, "Good Help is Hard to Find." Aristotle arranged some home
repairs and gave Nick a discount, saying, "I think we're even for that Hastings
thing." Nick say, oh, no we're not...

"I was almost staked with a pool cue because of you! Why you thought
it amusing to start singing the praises of Manchester United in a pub
full of Liverpool soccer hooligans is beyond me..."

I always liked to give my own explanations for FK's little inconsistencies. <g>

One thing I always liked about FK was it's multiculturalism, at least in
secondary roles. All three captains were ethnic minorities, and one was both a
minority and female.

I'd never heard of that, That woud have been very interesting.
I did like Blu as the captain very much (was that 3rd season ).

In the US, there is a retail chain called Hastings, which sells new and used
books, music and videos. They used to, and may still rent videos as well. They
tend to go into smaller cities and towns, like mine, Prescott, AZ. Maybe "The
Battle of Hastinigs" was Nick and Aristotle in a dust up with employees over
late fees.

I always gripe because FK seems ignored, so I was glad they mentioned it this
time at least.
