I found out today at a pre-op appointment, that that for my surgery on the 24th, I'm going to have to do the same magnesium citrate "clear out the pipes" that I had to do for my colonoscopy a few years ago. And it just occurred to me, all LaCroix would have had to do to stop Nick from ever trying to be mortal again was show him video of a human male of a certain age prepping for and getting a colonoscopy. Yes, I really can bring FK into anything. ;-) Laurie of the Isles Laudon1228@y....... http://1-mad-squirrel.livejournal.com/ http://1-mad-squirrel.dreamwidth.org/ "Heaven for climate, Hell for company." - Mark Twain ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2009 23:23:09 -0400 From: Deborah Hymon <debh@e.......> Subject: Re: Pssst, LaCroix?! Laurie, <ROFL> I'll be having my 1st colonoscopy within the year. Thanks, as now I'll have something to think about as they put me under before the procedure! I'll think of my favorite FK moments. on 9/9/09 11:00 PM, Laurie of the Isles at laudon1228@y....... wrote: > all LaCroix would have had to do to stop Nick from ever trying to be mortal > again was show him video of a human male of a certain age prepping for and > getting a colonoscopy. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Sep 2009 20:33:06 -0700 From: libratsie@s....... I very nearly turned it off. I mean who needs another Jenny Jones knock off, right? I thought it was real and that the local station was broadcasting something other than FK for some reason.** This is what I thought too. I always had to tape my eps since I was working day-shift then and they showed at 0130 on Mondays. I remember turning on my tape and thinking, "Oh, crap! The VCR screwed up again!" I, too have gone through ithis a couple of times. Thankfully, that -is- the worst part of the procedure. Most patients sleep away the rest of the afternoon, but I'm one of those strange people who metabolize anestetics quickly, they usually send me home within an hour after the procedure. When I told my GI doc this, he laughed and said it would never happen, but I was dressed and ready to go home when he came to check on me 20 minutes after. He just shook his head, and banned me from going to work that night, even though I felt fine, and sent me home. My niece is a sophomore in high school and they are studying the Arthurian legend at present. Her project is to make up a medieval feast, including recipies, and actually prepare a dish to share with the class. She lives pretty far out in the country, so her resources are limited, and I thought maybe we could help her out. I'm pretty sure we have some SCA folks on board, and maybe some of you have done similar research for fics. Any help would be appreciated. I apoligize if Don and/or McLisa might think this is too far OT, but I thought it might start some discussion as well as help on the project. I absolved her off line :). There is a medieval feast in A Fate Worse than Death, when we see Nick and Janette meat for the first time at one. One of Valerie Meachum Kessler's friend described this as "a really bad beer decision." I doubt if a school would look favorably on brewing medieval beer <g>, though. Any Society for Creative Anachronism members out there? I used to belong. There is also at least one medieval cookbook, I think published by the Metropolitan Museum. Probably a library could send it by interlibrary loan. They've got transcriptions of primary sources for medieval cookbooks among other things: http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/food.html There's the 14th C. Forme of Curry, a medieval English cookbook there. I apologise if this doesn't make too much sense but I'm on my first cup of coffee. :-) Well, here is Cariadoc's Miscellany it has some good information on medieval feasting and it has some period recipes in it as well. There is also a link on that page to more info on food in the middle ages. There are many wonderful recipes on that site and an article or two on how to adjust the medieval recipes to modern tastes. Along with other information on the SCA. http://www.pbm.com/~lindahl/cariadoc/miscellany.html I'm sure I can find more over this weekend. The sakanjabin is an excellent recipe and is wonderful during the summer. I make it all year round. Hope this helps some, ~Bast - aka Lady Ellisif Bjaranarsdottir called Tuchen ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 9 Sep 2009 to 10 Sep 2009 (#2009-152) **************************************************************
