Question about 1966 (3) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 22:36:31 +0000 From: P J <blue_twingo772@y.......> Subject: Question about 1966 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......>: > In the episode "1966", there's a German family whom Nick helps to > get out of East Berlin. Does anyone know how their surname should > be spelled?< Judging from the way they pronounce it, it should be written "Toffler". "Tofler" would be pronounced as a long "o" like in "door". "Toeffler" would be pronounced as ö like in "Fleur". Except in certain Westphalian areas, where oe is pronounced as a long o, same as "Tofler". > Also, do we ever learn what the father's first name is?< I haven't checked, but I believe they only refer to him as "Toffler". Regards, Petra. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Feb 2009 19:34:08 -0500 From: Greer Watson <gwatson2@r.......> Subject: Question about 1966 Ah, Gaylin, it's all very well to say, >Lacking the script, you could always check the > subtitles on the DVD as a decent backup. but there are two problems with this. First, there's the notorious unreliability of subtitles. Second, I don't own the DVDs. And, if I did, I couldn't play them, because I don't own a DVD player. (Which is why I don't own the DVDs.) I use it frequently because I'm deaf in one ear and have been practicing reading lips. I wasn't suggesting that you needed to own them but offering them up as a possibility in case someone else did who might, out of the goodness of their addicted little hearts, pop the DVDs in and look for you.
