Subject: "Old-School Fic" back-to-school ficathon
I haven't seen this in a digest yet, so just in case anyone is
interested, I thought I'd share that the "Old-School Fic" LiveJournal
community -- for fanfic in out-of-production fandoms like FK -- is
holding a back-to-school-themed ficathon event from now through
September 30. (I don't think you need an LJ account to play, but the
issue doesn't seem to have come up before, so I'm not positive.)
A ficathon is a lot like a challenge. In this case, the game is to
claim a prompt from the list this week (there are 15 FK prompts
available right now), and then write a story (minimum 500 words)
meeting that specific prompt and the round's general theme of
"school," and post it to the LJ community by the end of
September. (After the ficathon is over, players can post to fkfic-l
and other places, of course.) So, for example, if you claimed the
prompt "Nick and Screed: teacher's pet," you would write a story
involving Nick, Screed, a "teacher's pet" and "school," however you
interpret those things! :-)

This is their second round. I participated in their first, and it
went well. However, last time players were assigned prompts by the
moderators, and this time players get to pick their own prompts, so
it's a different kind of game. We'll see what happens!
