Has anyone posted about this already?] First, a word of caution. I do not know the people running this project, and neither do the friends I asked. The moderators of this community are strangers. That said, there is a project called "The Forsaken Fandom Awards" (http://community.livejournal.com/forsaken_fandom/). Their goal is to encourage fiction in fandoms that have few or no active awards projects of their own. This includes us: FK fandom. This is their second round; stories from the past three years are eligible. In their previous round, few FK authors were nominated, none of whom post to fkfic-l these days, if I'm interpreting correctly (Fenris, Nancy W., and a Mel M. whom I think is not our Mel M.), though a special WIP award went to Lisa S., who posted part of a story to the list. I learned of the project last week, when someone kindly nominated my "Starwort" from earlier this year. A moderator emailed me, asking whether I would give permission for them to list the story and link to it on my site; without my asking, they promised not to post my email address and not to repost my story. I spent a week hoping to find someone who knew them; I failed, but emailed back and gave permission anyway. As this active awards project includes FK, we can certainly participate. And it's downright silly for "Starwort" to be the lone FK nomination, which it apparently is at the moment. Nancy K., Ell, PJ, Jarvinia, Elena, Kristen, and many others have posted excellent new FK fiction in the designated period! Again, I'm not acquainted with the moderators, and that makes me anxious. (I'm a Knightie; I angst.) But encouraging more FK fanfiction is a worthy goal. So here's their posted schedule: - Nominations: July 11, 2008 to August 15, 2008 - Voting & Judging: August 16, 2008 to September 20, 2008 - Winners Announced & Banners Posted: September 27, 2008 An overview with links to their rules is on their LiveJournal profile (http://community.livejournal.com/forsaken_fandom/profile). You do not have to have a LJ account to participate in nominating or voting, but if you don't, they will verify your email address before counting your contribution. That's all I know. If someone else knows more, by all means...? Amy R. akr@l....... Anyone remember that being the case in any other episode??? 4) Cohen-Cleavage. OK, shoot me. I'm a guy. I notice. I appreciate. 5) Anybody remember if caterpillars were an "in thing" for really little kids when FK was made? We've got two caterpillar toys in the Loft and I think it was a green caterpillar that was accidentally left in a shot with Catherine Disher a few episodes back. 6) Ger's expression at realizing that there is a baby in the Loft..and it is probably his is really, really good. Totally sells the emotion. 7) Huh, I think all the lights in the Loft are now pink. Definitely the lamp beside the couch is a shade of red/pink I don't remember and the overheads above the staircase also seem to have a pinkish shade in this scene. 8) Schanke with a pocket watch? I remember him wearing a wrist-watch before. Isn't there a character in Alice In Wonderland, a rabbit who is obsessed with time and always being late?? 9) I love the way that Natalie steps out into the hallway after telling Nick to get inside "this dress isn't for public consumption". No one has seen her, yet. By stepping out into the hall, she is getting the thrill of maybe someone does see her...and the attractive man she's got stopping by. 10) more pink lights at Natalie's place. 11) I could be wrong, but I think the chess-set at Natalie's is the characters from Alice In Wonderland? I can see what I would call a Mad Hatter for the Queen's Bishop, the pawns look like rabbits and the queen looks like a young girl (Alice?) 12) "single malt, there really is nothing quite like it." I like the artistry of this line. To me, the stereotypical woman does not drink whiskey neat, she is a wine drinker. If Natalie had offered Nick wine and commented on the bouquet...it would have increased the feminine aspect of the character. By having her drinking a "manly drink" like neat whiskey (with what appears to be relish) and comment on it, they reminded us in a single line that this very feminine character (especially in that dress with those ear-rings and makeup and hair) is also a metropolitan homicide Captain who can "keep up the boys" whenever she wishes. Janette, a beleaguered housewife with a child, is by comparison, a very "unpowerful" looking character (quite the reverse of the characters' basic roles in the normal FK universe). 13) interesting hand-gesture that Ger does when he is babbling about "Cohen...Amanda" at Natalie's apartment. I wonder if he planned that gesture...or if is just what his hands did on instinct? 14) is the painting above the fireplace in Natalie's apartment significant? Ger keeps standing just to one side of it as if he was asked to keep it in frame with him and not obscure it. 15) I like the puzzled look Nick has after he's kissed Cohen at the Raven. He would normally kiss Janette under the circumstances - to thank her for her help - so he instinctively kisses Amanda...but then remembers that he is in fact kissing Amanda and not Janette....and can't figure out if that is a bad thing or - give how she isn't disturbed by it - the normal way he says "thank you for your help". 16) how the heck did they get the painting on the wall in the Raven (the one behind the bar Nick gets thrown over by LaCroix) past the censers? Wardrobe-malfunction my foot... 'Course, I don't believe I noticed that one until this particular viewing. Mmmm...was this painting and Cohen's attire (the very low cut dress with the massive necklace that draws so much attention to her cleavage) an attempt to symbolize the "motherly" nature of Amanda's character in this version? The adult feminine balance to LaCroix's masculine presence in Nick's mind? 17) I never realized that the guy with the shotgun in the beginning scene at the Raven was wearing a Walrus mask until Mr. Bennet pointed it out in the commentary track. Lambert, IMHO. (But maybe that's because I don't like impressionist painting) > > 16) how the heck did they get the painting on the wall in the Raven (the > one behind the bar Nick gets thrown over by LaCroix) past the censers? > Wardrobe-malfunction my foot... I may be wrong but a pair of boobs is neither shocking or unusual to see on TV in Europe so I wouldn't notice. And wasn't FK a late- night thing anyway? I was trying to convey that the relative powers/attractions of the two women is inverted in this "mirror universe". In the normal FK world, Janette is a wealthy, extremely attractive vampiress who runs her own dance club. Natalie is a civil-servant who is prone to baseball caps while "hacking up dead bodies" for a living. In Curiouser and Curiouser, Janette is a frazzeled housewife and Natalie is the Captain (a position of considerable authority that takes a lot of hardwork and skill to obtain) who is dressed to thrill and "exciting". > It's a standard impressionist I believe.
