Not so much with fanhistory (4) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2008 00:13:02 -0700 From: "Susan M. Garrett" <susanmgarrett@e.......> Subject: Not so much with fanhistory Well, it turns out that fanhistory.com isn't the tool I thought it was going to be - a place where we could preserve our history. Sad, but true. I'm sorry for everyone who worked on populating the Forever Knight section. Look at page source, save your work as a text file, and put it somewhere. It will be useful to you or to someone at some point. If nothing else, it did allow me to become acquainted with a lot of stuff from other people that I hadn't seen in some time and get a handle on some of my won stuff (of which I'd forgotten). *sniff* Susan M. Perhaps it will resume once they make themselves bulletproof, unless I'm missing something. Why must there always be trolls out to make a good thing bad? That is the best thing about our list. While we may occasionally tiff over philosophical differences, it's never mean or vindictive. I lurk a lot, with the odd comment or question, but I've always loved being part of this community. I've been following some of the developments on LJ and it is definitely most unfortunate. fanhistory was a wonderful idea that was unfortunately mishandled. Hopefully a similar ambitious will take root in the future. > I'm sorry for everyone who worked on populating the Forever Knight > section. Another alternative is the FK wiki which I'm thinking of taking a closer look at. I can't remember who but someone on the list has posted here and at the FK livejournal community about it. It's got some basic information up. Some of the formatting is also the same. I spent an entire afternoon playing trial and error with the code for the "Nick Knight" movie title card the way I wanted it. There might even be way to incorporate some of the fan experiences there as well. > If nothing else, it did allow me to become acquainted with a lot of > stuff from other people that I hadn't seen in some time and get a > handle on some of my won stuff (of which I'd forgotten). As someone who still considers themselves an FK fandom newbie I was really looking forward to reading more about the fan history. The list digest archive is absolutely wonderful and I've enjoyed going through it but having everything condensed and available from the people who were actually at the events like the Gerthing would have been awesome. I was really itching for some fan memories, if any, about Ger and Catherine's performance of A. R. Gurney's "Love Letters" at the Red Barn.
