Day for Night Whenever you return to the show from a commercial break or from a blackout (the DVDs), you get these wonderful flying, airborne shots of the downtown Toronto high-rise buildings, often with the CN Tower in the background. Frequently the establishing shot will be a night shot of the building used for the Division's offices. These all help to reinforce the 'night' part of "Forever Knight". A fascinating thing about "The Fix" is that these establishing shot are mostly reversed; that is, they use daylight shots of these buildings whereas in all the other episodes these were nightime shots. A nice touch which reinforces the idea of Nick being active during the day and in the sun. I would like to claim I noticed this first off, but it didn't hit my eye until I had watched the DVD several times. 2. Schanke John Kapelos deserves more credit than he is usually given. One of my favorite scenes in this episode is when Nick meets with Schanke on the Lake shore in the sunlight. Nick looks 'different' and Schanke says 'Did you get your haircut?'. Poor, sweet, totally oblivious Don just doesn't get it that Nick is standing in broad daylight. In most situations the character would end up looking totally dumb, stupid, and incorrigibly irritating, but Kapelos carries it off, keeping Don interesting and sympathetic. 3. Enlightening Lunch The expressions on Vincetti's face during 'lunch' are priceless. I don't know who's better in this scene: Vincetti or Schanke. 4. Speaking of daylight hours Nick, Schanke, Natalie, et al. are all on the night shift. So, presumably when Natalie gives Nick the lytobuterine (sp?), it's early morning just after his shift has ended. So, how come he, and Schanke for all that, keep going as if it were a normal daytime schedule? When they interview Vincetti at lunch, this would be the equivalent of a very late midnight snack for us. 5. Credit for Credits The pretty thing who pases Nick and Schanke on the street and who gives Nick the eye while his tongue hangs out of his mouth dragging on the sidewalk. This deserves listing in the credits? Walt Doherty Phoenix, AZ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 15 Jul 2008 23:22:46 -0700 From: "Susan M. Red means they don't have an article on Fanhistory.com . . . or I have them listed on the awards page in a way that does not match their fanfistory.com listing. If you or someone you know is on this list and you/they have a fanhistory.com article, can you send me the correct name so that I can link the awards page properly. If you or someone you know is on the list and wants to be on fanhistory.com, I'll set up a page for you, which you can fill out in your leisure. If you or someone you know doesn't want to be on fanhistory.com or wants to be there under a fan name or something, let me know so that I can remove the name from the awards page or put in initials or something for you. There have been a few posts lately asking for the names of middling-to-minor characters, like Amy Lambert from "I Will Repay" and Cynthia Lambert Luce from "Undue Process." I thought I'd mention the FK Character Directory that I've been working on for a few years now ( http://users.lmi.net/akr/fk/faq/directory.htm ). It's alphabetical by first name, and includes every character ever named aloud, or in the credits after first season (if the credit can be confidently matched to a person on screen). I believe it's easy to search, using a browser's "Find" function. It's complete up to "Night in Question" so far. I will finish it, but have not just yet for the typical reason that third season can be an emotional slog; still, I'm getting there. In parallel to that list of people, I've been working on a list of the places and things unique to the FK universe ( http://users.lmi.net/akr/fk/faq/places.htm ). It is also complete up to NiQ, so far, and it's my favorite. These are tidbits that can really make a story pop. I find them tremendously fun. And of course there are the character FAQs ( http://users.lmi.net/akr/fk/faq/ ) that I originally made in '97. They are all intended to be of use to people writing FK fanfiction. This (and its locations companion) are absolutely wonderful, Amy! I can only imagine how much time it must have taken to assemble. It's very generous of you to share it with the rest of the fandom; it certainly will be a handy tool for fanfic writers! That's something I've always appreciated about FK fandom. The wank level is relatively low, and folks have always been willing (and often eager) to share their toys, so to speak, with other fans. I'm glad to see this fandom still going strong after all these years, and I'm even gladder to still be a part of it! -- -------------- Stephanie Babbitt (sbabbitt@b.......), Atlanta, GA Vaquera (Because I Can), MadNatter, N&NPacker Nobody Dies. Kristen, thanks for the Loftworks tip: it means that I've been able to add another couple of actors' names. (And anyone associated with Loftworks might want to update, since I've got even more names that they don't have.) IMDB has been my main source of info. Besides the featured actors whose names are usually cited, I've been able to fill in from the following: a) second season episodes with clips from the first season. Oddly, the names of the actors in the clips are sometimes given under the second season ep, even when not listed under the original story. b) episodes with kids. If an actor's date of birth indicates that they were a child at the time the episode was filmed, then logic says.... c) pix of the actors, which IMDB occasionally has. Or if I can find a picture elsewhere on the Web (though it's remarkable how few of the minor actors from the show do actually have photos posted). I can then use Nancy's invaluable Episode Archive, going through and checking faces. d) recognition. Of course, there are still a few parts that I'd like to be able to give the actor's name for. Which reminds me: I missed asking the name of the murderer in "Love You to Death". The character, not the actor. Anyone remember? Minor characters, or walk ons might not have the money to spend on it. Tho IMDB is an amazing resource for film/television information. ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 15 Jul 2008 to 16 Jul 2008 (#2008-168) ***************************************************************
