Can't Run, Can't Hide

Producer: Richard Borchiver

Casey Brooks AKA Lt Drake

As Brooks is getting ready to take off and clear out,
he is looking over the awards on (what looks like a)
fireplace mantel. One of the awards is the:

---------------------------
 BORCHIVER AWARD

        is hereby given to

      CASEY BROOKS

    for outstanding service

  with disadvantaged youth

                1983
-------------------------

I'm not certain about the "1983" date.

I love it when Brooks says to Knight:

"You don't have any idea what it's like tryin to live with that kind of
guilt."

Wanna bet? :-)

For a long time I thought the name was "BorchNer". Sometimes the
Forever Knight font is hard to read. :-). The DVD's are great for
slowoing things up to check details.

Clark Johnson, who played Brooks, was in Night Heat, one of
FK's late night predecessors, and later in Homicide: Life on the
Street, and on The Wire.

Clark Johnson also had a major role in the last few of seasons of ENG, a highly
successful drama which was on the Canadian CTV network 1988 - 94, contemporary
with FK. In fact many Cdn actors (remember there are only 42 actors in
Canada!) had guest parts in both series.

Cheers, Darlene

I loved Homicide! And I recently bought the first three seasons of the The Wire
and am anticipating the final season with Clark Johnson as the Baltimore Sun's
 city editor.

Anyone know if there are any Homicide/FK crossover fics?

It was a running gag on the show that Meldrick Lewis (Clark Johnson's
character) had this weird thing for Toronto. When he went off on vacation and the
characters wondered where to his partner said Toronto and of all the places to go on
vacation they thought that it was the oddest choice. If I remember correctly
Lewis even spent on his honeymoon in Toronto.

On a side note: I should have mentioned this in the 'Captial Offense'
discussion but there is some parallel between Nick mishandling Laura Garfield, the
murder she committed while in custody and her eventual death. In a Homicide episode
Lewis and his parter Kellerman were extraditing a seemingly harmless suspect
(Lily Tomlin) who eventually fools them, escapes and commits murder. They both
received some heat for that but it sort of blew over so even a show like
Homicide, that was such a stickler for detail, can gloss over such an incident. We
shouldn't judge FK so harshly, if anyone does, if they did the same thing
 concerning Nick's faulty judgment.

One of Catherine Disher's earliest tv roles, if not her first, was in a small
role in 'Night Heat'. She played a female cop. I kick myself now that I didn't
check the series out when it used to air on the satellite channel TRIO. Early
Cath viewing aside, I'm a sucker for cop shows.

Also, I realize this is probably old news but in the interest of posting every
that relivant for the episode, Clark's sister Molly Johnson has an FK
connection. She sang Vudu's theme song in 'Black Buddha', a slower version of 'Black
Rose' called 'White Rose' and another Raven song featured in the second FK
 soundtrack.

ENG! I remember watching that on TRIO and enjoying it a lot. It was part of my
'Let's see if I can spot the FK actor in a non-FK role" game. It's just as fun
as the "Hey! It's that Guy!--Canadian Edition" game. :p

You're right; and they all exchange roles in each others series.
A number of the FK guests also worked on the "Nero Wolfe" series.
