Yeah, sometimes I feel obsolete 'cause most of the shows I like best
have been off the air for years ^_^; . But I try to think of the fact
there's still a dedicated fanbase after so many years as a sign of quality.
Honestly, if I'd been in a show that people still loved after so many years,
I'd probably feel very lucky to have been a part of it, proud of the work
itself, and flattered at the attention!

I'm loving Moonlight so far, which is good because I
needed a new vampire obsession ^_~ But his being so
young has provided hours of amusement for my roommate
and me. Last weeks episode, for instance, when we
find out he's been in the same city for 25 years, I
could not stop yelling at the screen. I kept trying
to imagine the Enforcers' reactions to a vampire
stupid enough to spend an entire generation in one
place. Five, ten years tops... but it doesn't seem as
though Mick has moved at all in his entire 90 years.
Which got him in serious trouble, last week, too. So
maybe he's learned his lesson. And every time he
mentions his age, or how much things have changed, or
anything relating to being older than he really is, I
feel like throwing something at the screen. 90 years?
Really? Nick was still listening to LaCroix during
the first century. That's not old!

My roommate and I created a rather hilarious scene
during the episode wherein Mick meets LaCroix, who
promptly beats him for being a moron. If Nick's a
brick, what does that make Mick?

CBS didn't have anything to do with FK by that point, IIRC. It was
USA that paid part of the costs and decided that it wanted things
its way.  Besides, TV executives oftentimes have their own  agendas;
for example, TPTB for Stargate SG-1's treatment of Michael Shanks
during Season 5.

I hope this is not stepping over the "the actors personal lives are personal"
line but didn't Deb Duchene give up acting entirely to become some kind of
therapist? I vaguely remember reading an interview where an actress said that
she was giving up acting because she wanted to do something that would have
greater impact on the world... I thought that was Deb but maybe not?

I don't remember ever hearing that, which is not to say it's not accurate or
after I stopped following things closely in 1997 or so. I do know that in
1995-1996 or so, Deb was putting hours and hours and lots of energy and work into
seeing if she could improve her piano playing to concert pianist levels. I know
at one point she had to slow her training schedule due to a broken finger, but
that's the last bit I remember.

Indeed. I figured that was a relic from late high school or early college--a
comfort sweater thing that she pulled on when Nick dragged her out of bed so
late in DtKY and that she was wearing when she was sitting vigil by Richard's
hospital. And since it was on the receptionist later...perhas she donated it to

Yeah..."Fallen Idol" was problematic in SO many ways. I spent the whole
episode talking to the screen saying, "NATALIE!!! Have you not READ 'Flowers for
Algernon'??" But by then she was so broken and so desperate that, as much as it
pained me to watch her, I totally believed it--much like the horribly
heartbreaking scene in "Night in Question" when Nick returns, burned by the sun, and
she's unable to respond or help, only to have a total breakdown and ask why he
didn't just do what she said as if that would have made a difference. Third season
was just so painful, watching them crumble around the edges and become more
 and more ragged.

I'm sure he IS flattered. But I understand that any actor wants to be
acknowledged for their other work as well. And some fans do behave
strange and IIRC GWD had some not so amusing encounters with fans
also. So let's give him a break.

McLisa, beginning to think of fanfic challenges (explain Screed in an off the

Amy Hull summarized it accurately. It wasn't Deborah Duchene's doing that they
lost Janette. What happened was that USA, which was the major backer, insisted
on changes. They wanted Janette either entirely out or reduced to a recurring
character as opposed to a regular. Deb said no, and in any case, the actors
union wasn't about to let them unilaterally reduce a member's status. USA thought
Janette wasn't sexy enough. This is because USA thought sexy only meant
bleached blonde and falling out of a bikini. <shaking head>

They tried to limit LaCroix to weekly monologues at the radio station, and to
remove Natalie entirely. At that point Ger said it she went, he wasn't coming
back. At least we were spared Nick and the neck of the week with no mortal
 balance.

At the time we were supposed to have lost Schanke because John Kapelos was
tired of the part. Maybe, but there have been rumors that this isn't entirely true.

Vachon and Urs were put in because the network thought Nick and Nat were too
old to attract a wide fan base. No offense meant to fans of either character, and
certainly not to Ben Bass and Lisa Ryder. I mention this because it tells us
a lot about USA's executives and their mindsets. The idea that they _had_ minds
is of course debatable, or maybe they were simply out of them. :)

Early morning and insufficient caffeine, as those of you who've been around
here long know about me. :) I meant to say Vachon and Tracy were put in because
the network doubted Nick and Nat's ability to attract a wide fan base. USA
thought Nick and Nat were too old, i.e., over thirty. Again, I meant no offense to
fans of Vachon and Tracy, nor to Ben Bass and Lisa Ryder.

Originally Vachon was going to have a crew that we saw a lot. This explains
Screed, Urs and Bourbon, whom we only saw once in a flashback. I don't know why
that part wasn't further developed. I suspect it was budget limitations.

In case I need to say it, no offense meant to fans of Screed (I'm one,
actually), Urs and even Bourbon, or to the actors who played them

While I wouldn't go as far as to say that I'm "loving" Moonlight I am
recording it and I do find it hilarious. The show does have potential
and like you I'm in need of a vampire fix. The more vampire shows
the merrier.

Yeah seriously. As one poster in put it on another forum.
Worst. Vampire. Ever. That ludicriousness of it took me
out of the story for a while. Too much FK on the brain I
guess. It's the first time I actually compared the two
series and that can only lead to agravation. I can't wait
for Moonlight to explore the vampire community because
I think it would clear up some questions and concerns.

Mick is not gonna live to see another century if he doesn't
clean up his act. And he should get himself some better
security. It's doesn't help that anybody off the street can
just waltz right in.

That's a major source of amusement. Looky GPS. That's neat.
We didn't have that 50 years ago. Try the absence of electrcity,
belief that the world was flat, or the advancement of women,
now that's progress. All kidding aside I generally like that he's
that young. How many times did we see Nick when he was
a young pup? Not too many and I'm sure he made some
interesting vampire mistakes. Of course a mistep in the
13th century has less ramifications than a mistep in 21st
century Los Angeles.

And Josef at 400 and apparently one of the oldest vampires in
LA brings in some much needed historical perspective. Hopefully
they elaborate on that. Although at 400 he's still a pup himself
like Vachon. I'd love for them to bring in someone who's actually
much older.

Oh I love this. LaCroix wouldn't stand for any of Mick's brainlessness.
I say lock him in the cellar with out any technological comforts--
like indoor plumbing, tv, or his cell phone. Make Mick rough it a bit.
