I'm hoping to warm up to her as time goes on. Maybe the writers will get the idea and change the character somehow to make her more appealing/interesting. Guess what time? Same as Moonlight! And I now no longer have a DVR since it just wasn't cost-effective to keep it. *FROWNS* Well, looks like I'll be flipping back and forth between the two channels, or find a really good friend who would be willing to tape one of the two shows for me. I also didn't and don't compare it to either Angel nor Forever Knight. The show is different enough not to warrant comparison. Period. By adding a modifier, you've effectively put a stop to the discussion. I was disappointed by Moonlight, because whole swatches of dialogue sounded, to my ears, lifted straight out of Daytime Soap Writing 101. Then again, I only gave it a look because I like the young actor whom I still think of as Veronica Mars's Boyfriend <shrug>. Cheers, Julia UF list cobra On 10/1/07, Lynn L. Sometimes, you're lucky, and a program is fantastic straight out of the box. But for the most part, the actors have to get into the characters' skins, the writers have to find out what works best, etc. Some of my favorite shows of all time have been those that I started watching after the introduction period. When I would catch up in reruns, I was often amazed at just how bad the first part of the first season was. Just look at how far the characters had progressed in FK by the end of the first season. Lots more humanity, backstory---it had truly been allowed to come into its own. Sadly, in today's crash and burn programming mentality, a lot of programs with potential never get the chance to stretch their wings and find out if they can fly. Exactly, but more than that, a show can take time to develope its audience as well as ratings. I love M.A.S.H., but I can't bear to watch the first three seasons anymore. Star Trek - the original series -- didn't really come into its own until after it was cancelled and went into syndication. The critics (and others) may have bloodied Moonlight with their criticism, but we should give the show more than one episode to prove its case. Why, there is even an episode of Forever Knight that I would pass on. ;-> ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2007 12:23:02 -0700 From: Walt <wdoherty5@c.......> Subject: Re: Moonlight - Developmentally Challenged From: "Lyn Palmer" <wizkid2u@b.......> > Sadly, in today's crash and burn programming mentality, a lot of programs > with potential never get the chance to stretch their wings and find out if > they can fly. The classic example of lettinng a show find its audience is "All in the Family". It was a Spring replacement series and had pretty low ratings. Then college students discovered it over the Summer and it bacame a ratings powerhouse. The Dick Van Dyke show is another example. It was cancelled at the end of the first season, but the producers managed to talk the network into giveing it another chance. Cameras used tto have film which needed to develop. Now we have digital cameras and people today don't know what development is. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2007 12:40:53 -0700 From: Walt <wdoherty5@c.......> Subject: Re: Moonlight - Have I seen this before? I think one of the interesting things about Forever Knight is that "Dark Knight" was about as polished a product as any of the better episodes. This is, I suspect, because "Dark Knight" was a remake of the original movie, "Nick Knight". In efect, this gave the production staff a practice run which they could use to check to see what worked and what didn't. This also gave the actors in "Dark Night" a chance to work with characters that were a more defined and developed than they would have been if "Dark Knight" had been made from scratch. The actors were able to get into their characters earlier and faster than in many other series. So, while some of the first season's shows may have been a bit rough around the edges, almost all of the things we love about FK were there, and done pretty well. It's first year was better than a lot of other series first years. Anyway, the long and the short of it is: give the show a break, there's only been one episode aired so far, and comparing it to FK is basically unfair 'cause FK is a hard act to follow.
