What I read (can't recall where) was that "New Amsterdam" was bumped because one of the game shows, I think, "Don't Forget the Lyrics" was doing so well, they wanted to keep it on longer. Fox is easy to cancel series, but they usually wait until at least 1 ep has been broadcast. And since Fox did do some fairly heavy (for Fox) publicity for the show, they'd likely show something.
