I remember putting it in to watch Only the Lonely for the discussion but it's since grown legs and walked away. It's probably in some empty movie DVD case. Oddly enough my FK soundtrack disc is also missing. Tim Phillips said: >1) Schanke is his normal amusing comic relief. Could he get any more >over the top? I love Schanke hamming it up. I loved all the bits of him thinking he was going to be this big star. Schanke I love you! Also, everytime I see this I flashforward to the X-Files/COPS crossover episode that was done. I wonder how it works out for Nick knowing that there is actual documented evidence of his existence as Detective Nick Knight out there. Granted there is photographic evidence of him in his other guises but video is much more concrete than old photographs. >2) Nick's purple jacket. Talk about channeling Miami Vice fashions for >a couple of scenes. That jacket never fails to amuse me because for some reason I don't associate Nick with wearing a purple Member's Only jacket. It's so dated (well maybe not back then) and it's not exactly fashion forward. As Schanke would say Nick is "Joe Cool" but it's wardrobe pieces like that that really have me appreciate his more yummy attire. >3) Nick: "they were in Vietnam, they were in the Persian Gulf and now >they are in the bathroom." > Natalie: "Well the sight of blood does strange things to people." > Nick: "Tell me about it." I caught an old episode of Friday the 13th: The Series recently and in it was Jason Blicker who played Bobby. Coincidently enough it also had Catherine Disher as a witch's assistant. I found it funny that his character asked her out on a date but she blew him off and then a few years later the actors have a few more scenes together. Ah you gotta love the pool of Canadian actors in Toronto. It makes my viewing so much more enjoyable. >7) Good grief. another Nick flying sequence. Boy, does that style of >trying to actual show Nick in flight look bad. I think when people call FK cheesy the sequences of simulating flight by having GWD attached to a harness directly comes to mind. There were probably different expectations back then but I doubt they were entirely happy with the way they worked out. After all they eventually got rid of them and used the much more effective camera swipe to show them launching into the air. The FK writing staff did try to keep as many folks involved as they could. Showing Schanke smoking and talking about his addiction probably only added a minute to the dialogue during the show, but it draws the character into the story alongside Nick - who has a more abnormal compulsion. 2) Nice piece of foreshadowing with Schanke saying "I was hoping she'd say balding, married men" after asking Monica about her addiction and her refusing to tell him. Not quite the truth...but Schanke was darn close. 3) interesting choice as to who Nick picks to confess his "addiction" to (Schanke). Although, there is little point to him "confessing" to Natalie - who seems the logical choice - she already knows his problem. 4) during the dream sequence with LaCroix and Monica where Nick is trying to admit his addiction in the 12-step conference room, Nick is flanked by two large "sheets" of writing. It looks Hebrew or Arabic to my eyes. Anyone able to confirm/recognize it? 5) it looks like they reused the diner set from Dying For Fame. The waitress who brings Nick his food actual looks a little like Janette, and is wearing the same hairstyle. And she also brings Nick french-fries, which he proceeds to bury in ketchup. 6) interesting that Janette is so concerned at Nick re-embrancing his darkside. Her calling Schanke and Natalie for an intervention is not the pattern I would have expected from her. She's derided Nick's attempt to become mortal in the past and urged him to respect his vampiric nature. 7) Janette to Natalie: "It's your neck" when Natalie insists upon going into the back of the Raven after Nick. Nice subtext. I also like that Catherine then touches her own neck before she goes into the back room. 8) anyone think there is a deliberate symbolism in the color-choices Nick is making in his painting? At the beginning of the episode, is completely black. When Monica stops by, he has brightened/bloodied it with red. At the end, he has largely overlaid those colors with bright sun yellow. 9) it is amusing where Schanke gets his artistic reviewing skills from. But Nick was going on the vampire equivalent of an alcoholic bender, and his eyes were gold. She did tell him that she can't have a scene and go work it off on the dance floor. Also, Janette is very pragmatic. She knows with modern times that vampires must drink blood out of a bottle to stay hidden. With the exception of HF, she never kills.
