Funny and friendly, but with a serious undertone. It really feels like these people are friends. And I like the way Natalie dumps it into Nick's lap in the end; she is interested, it is up to him to decide to move if he wants a relationship that is more. And I like that the camera lingers and you see Nick looking after Natalie. A small gesture, but it was correct to see he doesn't brush her off for real - however much he gives Schanke that impression. 2) Natalie: "no escaping the creature from the birthday lagoon" 3) I like that Nick understands how important it is to remember Natalie's birthday. He is really annoyed at himself for forgetting. 4) The sequence around how Nick and Natalie met (him showing up at Nat's Bed&Breakfast as a "customer") has got to be unique. Anyone else seen a fictional/real meeting between a couple that is so distinctive? 5) they do a nice job in the episode of showing how Natalie winds up with Roger Jameson. Nick giving her a card that reads "with affection" and not even trying to step into the door that Natalie has opened for him, gives her a good reason to think there is no future with Nick. And makes Roger Jameson's easy, friendly initial impression look really tempting. 6) "Ah yes, I believe I am wearing a formaldahyde based scent today" - Natalie on her perfume. 7) More nice dialogue between Natalie and Roger during their date. 8) whoever directed this episode had a thing about showing action in silhouette. It is done 3 different times to one degree or another. 9) When Nick arrives to save the day, there is something nicely symbolic in how the thing that breaks Roger Jameson's fall after Nick throws him is a pile of manure. 10) if this episode was done in a show today, I would expect it would lead to a permanent change in the relationship between Nick and natalie. At least, there would be some acknowledgement of the relationship they want and real reason(s) why they can't pursue it. Not a knock against FK, just one of those things that you can often use to judge the era of a television show by. Gifting Natalie some sexy lingerie seems rather personal coming from her co-workers. Perhaps its started as simply as Grace starting up a collection around the office to buy Natalie a gift with her getting suggestions but when it came for her to actually purchase a gift she decided to get her something to help jump start Natalie's personal life. A little friendly nudge. I often wonder what Nick's reaction to Natalie's present would have been had he actually made it to the party. >4) The sequence around how Nick and Natalie met (him showing up at Nat's >Bed&Breakfast as a "customer") has got to be unique. Anyone else seen a >fictional/real meeting between a couple that is so distinctive? I always enjoy the first morgue scene between Nick and Natalie. I like the way GWD plays the role of the detached vampire. There is no life in his mannerisms which I think is a pretty good indicator of how Nick's life in Toronto was like right up till him meeting with Natalie and then his subsequent work as a detective. He was merely existing. So Nick was apparently blown to smitherins. How exactly did Humpty Dumpty's clothes get put back together as well? Looks like they cheated a bit, lol. Since I'm pretty obsessed with Smallville right now I'd thrown in the meeting between Lois Lane and an amnesiac and brainwashed Clark Kent. Clark had been taken by his militant father Jor-El to train in Kryptonian ways. Lois is driving by a cornfield near Smallville lost and a lightning strike causes her to veer of the road into the field. The lightning strike has made a small clearing and in the center of the clearing is Clark naked as the day he was born. Lois gets out of her car to help and when the brainwashed Kal-El turns around the future Mrs. Superman gets a full on look at his birthday suit. Kal-El is completely oblivous to his naked state. The way GWD moves when he wakes up...Instantly alert, that sideways glance over his shoulder to where the blood is, his tone of voice, everything points to something definitely not human. It was great. Phylis >I always enjoy the first morgue scene between Nick and Natalie. I like the way GWD plays the role of the detached vampire. Seemed a bit much to myself also. But...I think it is one of those things where doing that immediately jerks the story forward. In a blink, you ask who would Natalie wear that for? Anyone at all? When you realize no one...you immediately see the loneliness that Natalie is feeling in that moment. >I often wonder what Nick's reaction to Natalie's present would >have been had he actually made it to the party. Geez. interesting question. Can a vampire blush? >So Nick was apparently blown to smitherins. How exactly did >Humpty Dumpty's clothes get put back together as well? Nick buys his clothes from the same place the Incredible Hulk does. :-) Tim ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 13 Aug 2007 to 15 Aug 2007 (#2007-31) **************************************************************
