This is actually one of my favorite episodes because it shows Nick how seductive Janette truly truly truly was to him. --- Angela Gottfred <agottfre@t.......> wrote: > > I would like to restart the episode discussions > <...> > > I believe the next episode would be > > Dance by the Light of the Moon in Season 1. > > For a date, I am going to propose March 27th > Kristen Fife, Author http://writersweekend.com - Spend a Passionate Weekend With Your Muse ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2007 18:07:34 -0700 From: Kristen Fife <fenix23fyre@y.......> Subject: Re: The Forever Knight/Blood Ties yahoogroup As a writer in both the fanfic and original fiction worlds/markets, and someone who has sat in on several panels at Writer's Conferences addressing IP as it relates to fanfic, I just would like to drop a cautionary note regarding posted crossover fiction, should it arise. There is a reason that this FK list does not allow crossovers with printed media of any sort. I'm a huge fan of Tanya Huff and the new series, but unless an author has explicitly stated publicly and in writing that s/he endorses and welcomes fan fiction (ie Mercedes Lackey and Katherine Kurtz publish anthologies with derivative fiction in them by fans as vs. Anne Rice who is vehemently AGAINST it in any form) I won't touch printed material fanfiction. I'm all for a discussion list regarding the similarities/differences between the two series, but be very very careful, especially now that Tanya Huff's books are going to become a "hot" genre. Forever Knight is a beloved (but let's be honest *now* obscure) original series. --- Libby Singleton <libratsie@s.......> wrote: But I know many people who also enjoy hanging around with Forever Knight fans with similar > interests as well as prefer smaller sites. > > > http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/fkbt/ > > Kristen Fife, Author http://writersweekend.com - Spend a Passionate Weekend With Your Muse ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2007 18:28:39 -0700 From: Libby Singleton <libratsie@s.......> Subject: Re: The Forever Knight/Blood Ties yahoogroup As a writer in the professional market who has been on numerous panels at sci fi cons over the years (and will be again this weekend in Memphis), any Forever Knight crossovers should strictly be based on the television series and not Tanya's books. If I hear she's not wanting fan fic based on the series, I won't allow it on the fkbt list. However, once a book series becomes a television series, fanfic based on the *television* series is probably to be expected. In fact, I do know a friend who knows her so I'll see if she has time to forward that question.<g> Of course whether or not FK/BT cross overs are allowed on our fanfic list is up to McLisa and Don. Maybe they'll read this and clarify. --Libs Kristen Fife <fenix23fyre@y.......> wrote: I just would like to drop a cautionary note regarding posted crossover fiction, should it arise. If you're interested in checking out her comments, go to the Lifetime, Blood Ties site and click on her section at the bottom of the page. She's constantly updating her comments on the series. Here's the URL: http://www.lifetimetv.com/shows/bloodties/ Also, here's a comment she made, and notice she says, "they're willing to pay you so that they can play in it", meaning the world she's created. Tanya's Quote: "Yeah, yeah, there's always the chance their interpretation will be a little... unique but that's not the point. The point is and pay attention here, this is important that someone liked your world, something you created out of the flotsam and jetsam floating around between your ears, enough to want to play in it. That's an incredible compliment. ***(Here's where she may allow the fan-fiction based on this comment)***Not only that, but they're willing to pay you so that they can play in it and honesty forces me to admit that's pretty cool too." ***This should be enough information to how she feels, PAY ME TO PLAY, unless she states otherwise. This also may be her feelings on the fan-fiction, but we'll have to wait and see. But if Tanya does allow the fan fiction, I would love to see the characters of Forever Knight and Blood Ties interacting. Darn, those would make some exciting tales. Can you imagine mixing up those characters? Nat and Mike, Janette and Henry, and just where would Nick fit in? Would he go into a jealous rage against Nat and Mike or Janette and Henry. <Grinning at the possibilities> Hopefully, Tanya will make it known if fan fiction is allowed, and if so, someone will write a FK/BT crossover. If the fan-fiction is allowed, and authors are willing to write FK/BT crossovers, we could see another surge of FK fan-fiction--let's hope! on 3/19/07 9:28 PM, Libby Singleton at libratsie@s....... wrote: > Forever Knight crossovers should strictly be based on the television series > and not Tanya's books. ***I totally agree! IMO, I think we will see BT fan fiction, but it's a bit early (not enough aired episodes) to see how this will play out. If this is legit, it seems we can write Blood Ties fan-fiction, which means we can write FK/BT crossovers! Here's the comment from Tanya Huff: Posted by: Tanya Huff | Monday, March 19, 2007 at 08:54 AM Destiny -- to answer your question about fanfic: as long as you're writing for your own enjoyment and not making any money off it, I personally consider it to be a compliment. However, it gets complicated legally if we know about it so please try and stay under the radar. ********** If you want to check this out personally, here's the URL: http://bloodblog.lifetimetv.com/2007/03/take_the_money_.html#comments The post is near the bottom of the page. Naturally I can't tell anybody what to write off Fkfic-l. On Fkfic-L. I have to say no to Blood Ties Crossovers. Notice what Tanya Huff said about it's being complicated legally and staying under the radar? This is because she could still lose her copyright if the characters are generally used. Also, her publishers have a say. Then there's whoever she sold the tv rights to, that are producing the series. So please, don't cross FK and Blood Ties on Fkfic-l. If there start to be really major differences in the books and the show, like the differences between Superman in print and Lois and Clark, then we'll see. But for now, the print crossover rule applies on Fkfic-l. Thanks! McLisa listowner, Fkfic-l and Forkni-l mclisa@m....... > >I was surfing around on the internet, on several Blood Ties sites.
