I think it's the oft melancholy nature of the sound produced by the cello and bass that makes one associate these instruments with vampires. This is especially true, IMO, in the case of our FK fiends, oops, friends. <g> :) Boomer Kristen Fife <fenix23fyre@y.......> wrote: IWhat is it about the sound of these instruments that refers to vampires? Subject: Extra Ger Tapes 1970s-2000s - Including Classic Shows Posted with Don’s permission… I have a set of extra tapes from a variety of Geraint Wyn Davies’ older appearances ranging from the 1970s-2000s. I am only looking for costs of tapes and shipping. I'm hoping to find these tapes a good home. If interested, please contact me offlist for details: kris1228@earthlink.net Thank you, Kristin http://www.avenuepotter.com/~kristin/Forever_Knight/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jan 2007 16:31:23 -0800 From: Megan Hull <mistrydder@y.......> Subject: Re: Cello/vampires? I'd say it has to do with the timbre of the instrument. Lower instruments, especially stringed instruments, have a very mellow, you could say 'solomn' sound to them. No one could call a cello's tune bright and cheerful, especially when playing a slow tune. The deeper, more mellow sound is easily associated with the dark, quiet feel of night (assuming you're not at a nigiht club). It's also easy to make a cello or bass sound mournful (as someone just said) which brings to mind not the sharp, immediate expression of pain that can be drawn from a violin, but the almost despairing, longing ache which is kind of the the whole theme of Nick's existance. -Megan Kristen Fife <fenix23fyre@y.......> wrote: I have been thinking about the fact that the Cello or bass seems to be associated with vampire theme songs, FK in point of fact. What is it about the sound of these instruments that refers to vampires? Any thoughts?
