It's always interesting to hear of people's impression of actors and
movies---most of the reviews I've read say that the lead couldn't act
at all, most called him "robotic". The movie has also been widely
panned, so much so that I decided not to go see it.

So what do people (as opposed to critics) think of the movie? Do you
think this actor could fill Ger's rather large shoes in some future
remake of FK, not just because he's cute and blond, but because he can
act?

Well, I went because my nephew is mad for dragons and was expecting the
worst. Perhaps I was just pleasantly surprised, but I thought it was a
good, entertaining movie. The two hours seemed to fly by.

I haven't read the book and that might make the difference in my review,
because I had no expectations, or impatience with the movement of the story.
I thought the dragon was amazing (the scene where she takes flight and
transforms in a flash of thunder and lightning was gorgeous), Jeremy Irons
was beautiful :-) and the young kid in question did a pretty darned good
job. Not NEARLY enough Malkovich, though!

I could point out a couple of places where it was a little over the top, but
I don't think he was wooden at all. He did a good job for a young, trained
actor in a movie whose main focus was special effects. Those would be
especially hard to work against.

To me, the real star of the movie was the scenery. My god, the landscape
that framed every outdoor shot was breath-taking. Hey---it's no "Lion in
Winter", but it's a good value for your movie dollar.

Just my opinion, oughtta be yours.... :-P
